Pet peeve of mine

Don't know what made me think of this- but this is a big pet peeve of mine: Teams that run the wildcat and immediately name it after their mascot.

It's really ridiculous. The Wildcat is a formation. Period.

It would be like MSU calling the I-formation the I-Dawg or the spread the Spread Dawg.

Since we run the wildcat, I hope we just keep it that- the Wildcat formation.

Also, my pet peeve. I get so tired of every commentator and analyst calling it the "Wildcat". You would think these former players turned analyst would point this out.

Gus Malzahn did not invent it. Neither did Nutt. One of them just gave it a cute name.

Not to defend that *** clown. But he called it the Wildcat for a number of weeks, when coaching McFadden at Arkansas. Then Pig fans started getting upset with the name and wanted to change it. So, the Wildhog was born. I guess Nutt just learned a lesson. So, when he gets to OM he calls it the WildRebel.

I think that trend has been pushed more by the media than the actual teams. I think these announcers love that. And they push it, whether the teams themselves call it that or not
