Golding ain't a Mensa member, but he's rat smart. And football smart. He's also a sponge and has been around some of the best if not the best in the business. He also loves players and loves what he does. And his players love him.

We can only hope he makes poor decisions with his staff and the boosters get meddlesome. He may turn out to be a bust, but I wouldn't put money on it.

Doubt OM would have beaten Miami with Lane - he'd have lost to UGA and might have phoned it in and lost the Tulane game.
Thanks Ms. Golding.

Pete Golding is a retard. He's known for it. And he's shown it with what's in the news over the last week.

He’ll probably get a hefty fine, but that’s all. Everyone is tampering at a high level now - but if you’re an OM fan, you have to be a least a little concerned that your actual head coach was doing the tampering (if what Dabo stated is true), and that he didn’t deligate the sausage making to someone. Pretty 17'n dumb actually...
A lot of people don't understand the difference between written rules and unwritten rules. The NCAA obviously isn't interested in enforcing the tampering rules as written. That doesn't mean that there are no rules regarding tampering. Maybe Pete is smart and has correctly deduced that there are basically no more tampering rules since teams can protect themselves with contracts (or at least taken a calculated risk). Maybe he mistakenly assumed just because a lot of tampering that is against the written rule is allowed that there are no rules. I think the NCAA has to do something, but I'm 50/50 on whether they will do such a minor slap on the wrist taht they are basically communicating there are no more tampering rules, or will try to maintain some order.

And how many expressed interest in talking to Golding? That's right, zero. Even Tulane and Southern Miss, both of whom ultimately made terrible hires. Ole Miss is stuck with him and this is their escape hatch.
Tulane and USM were not getting Pete Golding. They were interested.

Man, a lot of you people are putting a lot of faith into the NCAA ever giving out any meaningful punishment for anything. I think good chance the NCAA doesn't do anything at all, and even if they do UMiss and Golding will walk away and say it was totally worth it.

Something will happen here. Remains to be seen how severe. But college basketball coaches have gotten suspensions of several games for incidents similar, but not nearly as severe as this. And at some point, the NCAA is going to have to put its foot down anyway. No better time than the present.
The NCAA would like to make an example of someone about tampering & they would much rather punish a Ole Miss/MSU/Texas Tech than Bama/Ohio State/ Michigan/Texas. IF the NCAA still has any power, Ole Miss has given the NCAA the opportunity to make an example of them.

No they weren't, Ms. Golding.
I can assure you they were. But Ms. Golding is keeping him employed at OM until they kick him out of Oxford.

Which they may one day. But today is not that day. He will last longer than Arnett did at State - and more than likely longer than Lebby does.

We can only hope his record is similar to theirs. But I wouldn't count on that either. He's 2-1.

This is just getting weird now. I didn't realize how many Peat Golding stans we had on this site.

I'm sure RebCuck appreciates all the positive vibes and will be by shortly to like all your posts.

Just providing factual commentary. Important to know and understand your enemy. I am hopeful as the rest of you that Pete turns out to be a bust at OM. Just like I'm hopeful Lebby gets it together and wins at State.

We will see how it all shakes out. Lord willing.

Your assurances mean nothing. You, er, Ms. Golding wouldn't have turned down a bigger payday as head coach at a G6 because you, er, she has Oxford in her heart. You should stop and smell the bullshlt you're shoveling.

He was on nobody's radar. Was not mentioned as a candidate for anyone. Nobody but Ole Miss was willing to give him a job.

There was a ruling. He was denied an additional year. So now he's suing the NCAA. We'll see how it shakes out.
He suing in Mississippi court, with a UMiss law school grad judge. He's got a pretty big home court advantage here.

Yes, everyone is tampering. But not everyone is doing it with direct contact from the head coach. And other head coaches turning them into the NCAA with receipts.

And this is just what is on the surface. What if they actually start investigating and digging around the last couple of portal classes?

Ole Miss knows better than most that it's never a good thing to have the NCAA digging around in your back yard. And everyone knows, as toothless as the NCAA has been, they aren't going to put investigative resources on something this public and visible and end up doing nothing. They can't afford the credibility hit at this point.

Ole Miss is gonna get hammered.
I hope they get hammered too. Honest question though, what does getting hammered by the NCAA mean anymore? You can pay players now so taking scholarships away doesn't mean much. Do you have to be on scholarship to get paid NIL or revenue sharing? I honestly don't know. But if not, then I don't think taking scholarships away will mean anything. The harshest punishment I could think of is a bowl/playoff ban or maybe a roster limitation where they just couldn't roster as many players.

Maybe they can limit the revenue sharing number? Declare certain players ineligible? Make them ineligible for the playoff? Suspend coaches? I'm sure they can come up with something.

I just love how hopeful you guys are that OM is going to implode somehow, when it has been my 60 plus years of experience that that never happens to my satisfaction

They'll never go away, but they have sucked a$$ multiple times this century. They seem to recover sooner and make fewer hiring mistakes than we do.

They're a cunthair away from sucking aGAIN anyway. Our folks get so triggered when they have some football success and tend to forget that this happens in cycles for them: They go all in, they get reckless, they have some success, the NCAA comes calling, and it all comes crashing down. This cycle has happened at least three times in my lifetime. That's the way it works. That's the way it's gonna work.

We witnessed amazing OM implosions under both Houston Nutt and Hugh Freeze, both very recently.

Along with witnessing 6 trips to NY6 bowls which includes a playoff run to the semifinals.

What has doing it the "right way" done for yall? You happy with your one winning record in the SEC this century? Have yall ever even beat a ranked P5 opponent in the post season? I guess you've got the bowl win over a ranked Tulsa to hang your hats on.

Yes, and they suck for about three years - still managing to beat us at least once in the Egg Bowl - before they rise from the ashes.

To quote the late, great Darrell Moore: "They're worse than Tulane, cheaper than Southern, and luckier than Georgia."

I've hated OM before most of you boys were shitttin'yella. Maybe their next implosion is just around the corner, but don't hold your breath.

Sorry to have poked the confederate gray squirrel landshark rebel black bear, thedoubledouche...

but he ain't wrong.

6 trips to NY 6 bowls and a national semifinal - While our beloved team reaches No. 1 in the nation with a generational QB, then our coach immediately starts looking for other jobs, we choke at Bama, get boat raced in the Egg Bowl, and don't bother to show up for our only NY6 opportunity and lose to Georgia 17nTech.

Forgive me if I don't drink the Kool Aid you guys are serving.

Somebody will file suit on behalf of players saying the NCAA prohibiting tampering effectively restricts the players rights in terms of another employer making them an offer for employment at a higher salary, so I honestly don’t see the NCAA enforcing anything related to tampering.

And yet you are still here. I'm not on NAFOOM. I'm not on the gay pride site Spirit or whatever else y'all have. So it begs the question: why are YOU over HERE?

Oh wait, I know. You are a microcosm of most (all?) olemiss people. The thirst for attention is the very definition of olemiss. It's in your DNA, and it's borne out in every aspect of the school, the town, and your athletics, time and again. It's Hugh Freeze. It's Marshall Henderson. It's Matt Corral. It's Chris Beard, and it's especially Lane Kiffin. It's the vomit-inducing narcissism that you all hold down to your core, and the reason every other fanbase despises you and enjoys watching you get burned.

So maybe that's what doing things the right way has done for us -- at least we aren't like you.

Yes, I do come check out things over here daily after spending three minutes going thru an entire morning's activity on Nafoom. I find it quite enjoyable over here and mostly just hang around. Love the meme thread and still hold out hope that MadDawg will once again post Arse of the Day again. (still waiting)
