"This is the way the world works in college athletics" and that it most definatley happened. Didnt want to get into it to much as far as other info, but it did seem to look like Urban Myer is def. involved.

I think he didn't confirm or deny the Myer involvement for either A) he doesn't want to alienate himself with any coaches and B) he doesn't want to respond to the follow-up (i.e. was it Mullen, Saban, Dooley, etc.).

I thought it was interesting, that Thamel is convinced (and publicly said) that Newton was shopped around. He didn't use the word "allegedly" at any point in the interview.

Meyer definitely got the writer onto the story. And the writer was very quick to end the interview. Stay tune.

Finebaum has figured it out that he can do this for the next 20 years as long as he can pump one side good and the other bad. He's supposed to be "all knowing" in this conference and it takes a NY Times reporter to break this story? You're telling me Finebaum didn't have any credible sources? Somebody needs to call his bald *** out on this on the air. He definately need to take down that "Orlando Sentinal" quote if he can't break this story.

have recorded conversations or have heard the recordings and were just waiting for cecil or rogers to commit. Maybe they're waiting for AU to make a definite statement of innocence. They didn't get a definite statement from Jacobs today, that's for sure.

I know all of us have been saying that he was shopped about but this is the first public guy to come out and say it. All they have said before was the offer made to Bond. He knows something or he would not have used the phrase "shopping around". It will be interesting who else is involved. I feel pretty good about us because we would not turn ourselves in unless we were clean on the issue. I really bet this was Meyer trying to put Kiffen's coffin in the grave.

If the NCAA had been handed audio tapes of Cecil Newton asking or talking about taking money, I dont think Cam would be playing today. That seems like the ultimate smoking gun.

but I got pissed. Finebaum listens to Auburn caller after Auburn caller spout inexplicable **** and panders to them. One MSU caller calls in, and admittedly makes some unsubstantiated charges to which Finebaum shouts him down. Then, later on Finebaum proceeds to make unsubstantiated claims of his own, but couching them in stuff like "now, I'm not saying that" and "maybe this isn't true, but" and so on. And to his mind, because John Bond isn't Archie Manning, he must be a deadbeat liar, and Mullen and Meyer are behind this stuff because he is "hearing it" from the Auburn administration.. and so on and so forth.

Basically, I'll bash MSU on this and call them liars, but if anybody dares impugn the good name of Auburn on my show, I'll berate them.

but the NCAA doesnt do anything in a hurry, thusallowing the school do act on their own accord. we could have played sidney every game last year if we had wanted to. we just would have had to vacate all wins when the ruling was finally handed down.

there is a chance that some concrete proof does exist and the NCAA is just taking its time putting a case together.

Specifically saying that the SI article where Newton said he wanted to go to MSU, but Cecil says "It's Auburn." That sent up some red flags to journalists.

they "lawyer up". Didn't we have someone on here say that they had heard that when Mullen apparently indicated to Cecil that he was going to turn this in to the SEC office that Cecil told him to go ahead because Cam would be in the pros before anything would come of it?

i know alot of folks were wondering, what the 17 triggered to come out last thursday. it really followed up the SI article that stated he wanted to come to State, but diddy told him he's going to Auburn.

that story, in itself, could have triggered curiosity among the big "respected" writers and they started asking questions and got some answers from inside sources they've had for years.

makes total sense to me.. thoughts?

I think there was enough whipser and talk about $, thats what inspired that SI article.

Didn't Veazy say he had been trying to get Bond to go on record for 1 month? That makes me think there was talk about Newton being shopped around before that SI article came out.

My humble opinion is that there has been rumor and speculation over the entire process... Internet talk of Cam was bought at Auburn and his dad was demanding 200K for his services to fix his church began swirling the day that Cam announced it was Auburn. If you don't think that the media guys these days are usually a step or two behind message board chatter just read some of Marcello or Locke's blogs. News usually hits SPS or BDJ a day before it hits the press.

I am sure that some of the national media guys were onto some of the "hear say" about the recruitment of Cam Newton from Blinn and how it played out and who the players were.

I could be way off but the timing of the SI article in which Cam is quoted as saying that he wanted to sign with Mississippi State but left it up to his dad who decided on Auburn , threw up some "red flags" that grabbed the attention of the guys at ESPN.com, NYT, and Veazey who was close to the situation last year.

I could be way off but that's just pure speculation on my part but the timing of all this is strange.

_________________________________________________Last edited by NorthMsDawg : 11-06-2010 at08:46 AM.

Nick Saban + Alabama return to prominence + "Special advisor" Pat Dye + hiring 5-19 head coach + Trooper Taylor = Auburn win at any and all cost

part of the punishment should include a public ro-sham-boing of Trooper Taylor. I would pay money to watch that jackass get kicked in the man-business. Some people simply should not be able to procreate.

You notice they haven't said ANYTHING. And if you look back in history this is their MO. They get some dirt on you, make sure it is really good, then they let the rope out and see if you hang yourself. They aren't in any hurry. They don't look at things the same way we do. Now, this having a chance to screw up the national title and be embarrassing to the BCS and the Heisman voters may prompt them to act sooner than usual, but they may not even care about that. More telling than anything else to me is that Auburn knows this and they are being VERY careful not to Bruce Pearl themselves. They aren't denying anything and they aren't daring the NCAA to do something. They are being extremely meek.

If we had tried, the game would have never started.
