Has not been offered job, but respects Byrne and MSU.

Edited to add: He said he's looking forward to BSU's bowl game.</p>

If all the sense the sumbitch has is to hang around a place that going undefeated means a Humanitarian award, forget him. If an offer almost 3 times what they they can pay isn't attractive enough, forget him. Find somebody who wants to be here, wants to be paid well, and find me somebody while I'm waiting. Who's next?

Whoever posted that he was going to name his next child after Byrne might want to hold off for a day or two.

Turner Gill, here we come.

That Petersen WAS offered the job, but out of respect for Byrne and MSU he denied ever being offered so it doesn't look like we were turned down.

Similar to Auburn's AD saying that Tuberville resigned and they begged him to stay 3 times. It was worked out during the dealings that Tuberville would save face.

In this case, it's MSU and Byrne who get to save face.

dog...big news. We now need to look for a similar coach. The only one that has been in the news that comes close to his "profile" is DD. I'm not talking about his "record"...talking about the overall approach that GB probably has. Petersen may not have the "fire in the belly" to compete like DD probably does.

in many different ways... if you say there hasn't been an offer, then you can rightfully say "I'm not going"....

something seems strange about the fact he said it in the way he did... why didn't he just say he turned down MSU? why would he say we didn't offer when it appears obvious we did?...of course there again, there are many ways to define "offer"...

I don't think anyone at this point would think that Byrne has not "offered" him....

this is getting thick... or am I just trying to redifine the word "is"?

sounds like it was written by a wordsmithing lawyer. It said nothing and everything at the same time. He has wiggle room either way.

My agent has the offer...I am considering, but no one outside of the inner circle involved will know for sure till after the BCS selections. Save your enthusiasm for after the actual announcement folks.

was the "official" statement only released to a blog? I believe that all hope is not lost.

All I am saying is wait for the press conference to get excited, till folks have signed on the dotted line it is all going to be coach/lawyer/agent speak from anyone who already has a job with players and coaches. Do you really think he is going to say he is taking the job before telling his players and coaches (if he does of course)?

What more does the guy have to say than "I am not taking the coaching position at Mississippi State"?

He is in a bad spot and can't say much (Pine Box) all he can do is hide behind his agent until its a done deal one way or another.

but I find it interesting that there is nothing on the official Boise State website. If this statement were legit, then it would have most likely come from the BSU athletic department and be posted on their site. As of 7:30 p.m. CST, it's not there.

"I have not been offered" lends more probability to still come to MSU than "I have turned down an offer"

So, we're way behind in the 4th quarter, but there's still time on the clock...

I want a copy of the official release. If it came from Chris Petersen letterhead and not BSU letterhead, the door is still open.

Yeah, I have never heard that a coach go back on a statement like that before. What am I thinking?
