I'm shocked nobody is talking about "the statement" link no longer working. Also in the statement he said he normally doesn't comment on coaching vacancies, so why this one? I know that could be due to his recruiting, etc. But still its suspicious.

I think its very funny though that the statement about him not being our next HC is no longer available. Personally, I still think there's a good chance; there are no other strong rumors either way, this one still has legs in my opinion. I read where some claim it was a done deal until it leaked. Why would that matter???

If negotiations broke down, do you think both sides would say 17 it and move on that quickly? I mean 100% to 0% without a few days of going back and forth? Not being a smartass, I just think if something was close neither side would move on to plan B that quickly. Something strange with the rumors yesterday, but I don't think he is coming and I bet we never know the whole story

Petersen is a unique type, maybe even strange (the guy has turned down many big dogs to stay on the blue turf) so there is something odd about the whole ordeal. My best guess is perhaps there were definite negotiations with an agreement between the 2 parties that not a word would be released. Somehow, someway, maybe inadvertantely, word leaked out and pissed Petersen off. If there's anything to it, Byrne can only hope to play damage control and give an offer he can't refuse. I'm not talking about a done deal type situation because there more than likely never was one yet. I just think Petersen got miffed about the fact that he was negotiating got leaked. Like I said, just one guy's opinion.

Whoever Petersens agent is, is giving him all the right things to say. He would never jeopardize his clients position at his current job. The fact that Petersen has said that he has not been made an offer by MSU could be his agents way of saying that money has been discussed but not the kind of money they are wanting. Right now Petersens stock is really high. If next year he goes 7 - 5 or 8 - 4 he wont be as highly in demand as he is now.

I won't believe there's 0% chance of him coming until GB announces someone else. Maybe I'm just being gullible.

Sparty blog site for costing us our #1 candidate? Heck, they are the ones that really got the fans flaming. If it had just only been some random MSU posters saying they had heard this it wouldn't have gone ballistic like it did.

that he got pissed that the rumor got out, and he addressed it.

Think about it this way- if he says "There's a rumor, and it's true I'm gone" before every thing is ettled, he has kind of pinned himself in a corner.

and I'll make it again because perhaps I am just a glutton for punishment... I would think that if he were making a definitive "I'm not going there because I am staying here" statement, like he supposedly did yesterday afternoon, it would have been released by the university (either main campus PR or the athletic department). For all the "reports" that claim Petersen has come out and said he's not coming, there is still nothing official on either the Boise State athletics or university sites. I suppose his agent could have released it, but I don't think that's how "official" announcements usually work.

And while there are still links that go to stories with the alleged statement, the Yahoo sports AP story for the issue that is linked to from the sixpackspeak.com main page, which you can find here , goes to a page that says the story has either expired or is no longer available. At the very least, I too find that interesting.

That having been said, like others, I'll believe he's coming here when he is standing behind the podium wearing maroon, because it's the only color that matters.
