Because our daft AD believed the rumors and didn't bother with the fact. Just the opposite with Briles. Your turn.

Ah ha! So u admit what everyone else already knew! He had a reputation of misconduct (whether proven or otherwise) and uk didn't want him.

I wanted him. We finally hired the 2nd try. Im happy.

Huh? Everyone on the planet thought they knew that Cal was "dirty". Turns out, he wasn't and isn't. I'm a bit fuzzy on your ah-ha moment.

i was just stating everyone thought he was sketch so UK avoided him the first time around. everyone else still thinks he is sketch outside of ky fans. whether its warranted or not is moot.

my point is we are willing to take chances in bball but our moral highground is way to high in football? its a double standard

No, read my earlier post more slowly. The rumors about Cal were false, the facts about Briles are true. See the issue?

Keep dreaming. UK isn't going to throw the school's reputation into the gutter for skumbags who have PROVEN they are morally bankrupt just so a portion of our idiot fanbase can have more fun at their weekly tailgate.

Every September/October this message board is a repeat of the previous year. It's just flat pathetic. UK will NEVER win big in the SEC and will never hire a loser in hopes of winning......ever.
People with morals are not allowed in the SEC schools that want to win. In fact at most SEC schools they would exorcise the demon you must have inside you.

I don't think Cal was the best coach in the country in 2007...and I don't think anyone has ever looked at him as the best bball coach in the country, not even now. Hes near the top now, but back in 2007 he had one Final Four at UMASS and a few solid seasons at Memphis. Of course 2007-2008 changed that with the 38-2 team runner up.

What? Tom Izzo, Michigan State and the entire Big Ten conference are garbage. You're way out there, just like some of the clowns posting here. You comparing Briles to Izzo just proves my point, though. We have some fans that could care less about a Rape and violence cover up culture as long as we win games and they can act cute at their tailgate. Pathetic. Sadly, many of these same people are parents of soon-to-be deadbeat adults, like themselves.

Coaches??? Yes but an ace recruiter is a must. A head coach can be just that but any head coach worth his salt needs to be an excellent recruiter or have one on staff. Not just recruiting 3 stars and coaching them up but recruiting talent. You can coachem up all you want but you can't coach talent. Talent is what makes coaches look good, not the other way around, especially in the current environment of we want it now! BTW, does Stoops have a real estate agent? He should.

Funny stuff. You'd rather listen to the idiots that hate UK basketball for some weird reason, though they are UK football fans. What a sorry bunch of losers....and I don't hate UK Football. I just don't see us winning in the SEC nor do I see us hiring a dirtbag to do so.

I love UK basketball. I just recognize it for what it is, a distant second place in the sports hierarchy. When basketball season comes, I will be all about it.

You are part of the problem with UK football. You don't think we can win (or don't really care that much), so you accept mediocrity. I don't.

Winning to me means 8+ games on a consistent basis and a better bowl game than the Music City Toilet bowl. I played sports all my life and mediocrity (6 wins) doesn't interest me. If you think UK Football will ever achieve 8 wins consistently in the SEC, have fun chasing your tail. I did it for 2 decades but finally got smart.

Even in basketball, recruits and players come to UK not for our facilities, or Rupp, or even the passionate fanbase. That's all extras and the cherry on top. They come here to play for Cal, because he knows how to win, knows how to develop players, and get them to the next level.

The same is true for football. Sure kids grow up dreaming about playing for an Alabama or Notre Dame, etc. However, they go to a program to play for the head coach. The facilities, fanbase, stadiums, are all extra nice. Today, with the kind of money in college football, most power 5 schools already have solid facilities, stadiums, or are in the process of upgrading. It starts and ends with the coach. I think a lot of our recruiting success were predicated on Stoops selling the idea of let's build something special. I'll lead you to the promise land. However, we are even starting to see if the wins and buzz begins to fade, so will recruiting. We need on field success to continue the cycle of recruiting, excitement, etc. All of it depends on a competent coaching staff. 3 OC in 4 years isn't a recipe for success. Until we get signature wins and bowl appearances, it'll be tough for any coach to succeed.
