on Saturday was bad. Thought someone might point this out, Cards had at least 2 timeouts left, maybe 3, yet he never called one to give them at a shot for 2 or 3 plays.
He also could have called 1 to try and ice McGinnis on the game winning FG, not that it would have worked, but one never knows.
Yes he is an Offensive whiz, but there is more to being a HC than just calling plays, and BP really had a brain cramp !

I wondered about the end of the game. I said it was smart for him to keep timeouts but I would've fully expected him to tell his KRs to let the ball go into the endzone or go all out on a lateral play. I tell ya right now I wouldn't have iced MacGinnis from 47 cause that's a tough kick in that situation and in college. But I would've at least tried to see if the ball would go into the endzone on the kickoff. I would've taken the ball at the 20, shot for midfield on 1st play and thrown the Hail Mary from wherever the ball was.

I think his arrogance kept him from calling timeouts. Even as we were driving I think he thought we couldn't drive on his defense for a game winner in the last minute.
This was my feelings.
Then he was shell shocked and forgot to "ice" the kicker.

After the Badet catch, I thought the objective was not to score a td but get in position to kick. Petrino may have come to the same conclusion was hoping there would be little more time on the clock following the kick whether it was made or missed. With 3 time outs, he would have had time to cover some ground and get into field goal range. Regardless of his thinking, the outcome was great...for us.
I agree with the idea that the return guy should have let the ball go into the endzone.

I have to admit, before THE fumble, I was wanting UK to let them score, so we would have time to drive and tie the game. My plan was wrong wrong wrong and wrong.

Pitrino didn't call timeouts because he thought there was no way we could get in a position to score on that last drive.

The thing that was baffling to me.... when UL had the ball inside the 10 all they had to do was take a couple of knees and kick the game winner. But it was obvious that Jackson wanted to run in the winning score and probably do another pose, so he got cute and fumbled. You would think that after we battled them to a 38 all tie that getting out with a 3 point win would have been good enough for them, but apparently not. Hubris cost them the game.

Doesn't anyone remember the end of the Virginia game? Down by 1 they drove the length of the field without a timeout. They thought they could do the same again.

Petrino looked tentative. Running out the clock on the series where Jackson fumbled. Setting up for a short field goal rather than going for it and seeing if his defense could stop us.

Watch out Black Diamond, you are going to piss off all the posters who still have a HO for him and blame Mitch for not interviewing him.....

I think the last few downs for UK were interesting from a game management perspective.

BP was likely expecting UK to continue to drive for a much closer FGA. Taking a TO there when it was still a 50 yarder gives UK time to run more plays and maybe get to chip shot range.

CMS obv had confidence in Austin from 45-50 yards. In fact, he said he shouldn't have called a TO so soon - left time on the clock. Plus, he had to worry about a sack or turnover. He was content to give Austin his FGA.

Do wonder if he would have been second guessed if Austin missed. (I.e. Too conservative - should have pushed for more yards instead of settling)

As per usual, these decisions are easier after the game!

Make no mistake, Petrino winning by 7 instead of 3 is a deal for him. Like Spurrier, he wants to demolish. His frustration of us playing with them was bearing on his mind. Getting a TD instead a FG was a big deal in his mind. Winning by 7 instead of 3 trumped the possiblity of a possible fumble.

Usually coaches go back to practice for the next weeks game.
BP got to live this game over and over until he gets on the field for their bowl game.

The loss to UK was the most painful of his coaching career.
Long may it last.

Poor time management by Petrino, could have saved 30-40 seconds by calling timeout after 1st down run at the 35 yard line, he flat blew it, must have had a frozen brain moment.....Thanks neck brace for that
