Yeah...but he is in the same spot basically. Still just needs to two putt
Yeah he got a decent lie for his 3rd shot, so he should be safe. I just don't get why you would bring bogie into play by hitting a 3 wood on the second shot. On the bright side, it resulted in more shots of Jason Day's wife.

I don't think a 7 iron clears the hazard which ran up the 2nd fairway a bit. He took all the penalty strokes out of play. Hit it in the stands and you get free relief.

What he said later was; he figured 19 out of 20 times for him, when he hit a 3-wood in that situation, he would score par or better. So he evidently his game and statistics; under the pressure he went for what he knew best. He said he purposely hit his 3rd shot a bit hard leaving a longer put; to lessen chances of an error.... the announcers and most others agreed on the 7 or better iron and play from there.

That's a good point, I always forget about the free relief players get from the grandstands. Seems odd to me, but the players are smart to use it to their advantage. I think it was Saturday that Mickelson hit a horrible shot into a hospitality tent, but ended up getting to place to ball in a great spot for reaching the green.
