I admit to paying very little attention to state politics. Small children coupled with good doses of cynicism and apathy will lead to that.... but am I the only person here who had never heard the name Phil Bryant until yesterday? And now I find out he's not only made Byrne his ***** but he's practically our governor already.

Guess I should pay more attention...

says this game is being mandated by high ranking members of government. And I think the people I have asked would know. I will keep asking. But, I am beginning to put this rumor to bed in my mind. </p>

You need to post some specific information if you hope to quell the rumor that the rumor of state politics being played in the USM series is false.

that in my mind I am starting to put down the rumor. I probably won't be able to post information specific, because I would have to be and idiot or dubmass to reveal who is telling me what. Therefore, I probably won't be able to put the rumor out of people's minds totally.

And I am not through talking with people. So far, I am getting a bunch of "not that I know of" and "I can't see that being the case."

That would probably get me fired. Whether or not you believe me, I dont really care. And if you think the likes of Kyle Veazy or someone like that is going to come out and confirm or deny this rumor, you are crazy. This is how things work in Mississippi, you scratch my back, ill scratch yours. ETA: If you do not know who the hell Phil Bryant is, then you know nothing about politics, which explains why you cant grasp this theory.

We've been out-politic'ed in this state forever.

Not trying to call out Topdog, but anyone claiming that this game was a mandate from Jackson is being fed complete ********. This was a Byrne deal. Now, are there people in Jackson who support this? Yes. Was it a mandate or even polittically nudged? not even close.

Phil will be the next governor of Mississippi... He will take over the role of appointing people to the Board of Trustees for Higher Education in MS. In turn Ole Miss and MSU will be forced to play USM in football each year....

I am not convinced yet that the rumor is false. I will have a MUCH better idea about that after tonight.

Right now, I have just talked to numerous people. And I do think that chances are that one of those would be able to validate the rumor if it is true. And right now, I am getting "not that I am aware of" and "I can't see that happening."

I am just starting to heavily doubt that the rumor is true. But, again, the jury is still out in my mind.

A bad *** for being strong-armed politically? Does that make LT a bad *** for hiring Croom?

I said if this was gaining us political favor then it was a good thing.

Minus anything political - I don't see alot wrong with this game. Right now it looks alot better than 17ing GT, Houston, and MTSU (alot more would travel to watch state play USM in Hattiesburg than to watch state play MTSU in Nashville).

I think Templeton hired Croom b/c he thought he was a good coach. The political factors were just a bonus.

Edited to add: I don't think it should be a traditional 1 for 1. It should be even benefit for both schools, and USM gets a lot more from a traditional 1 for 1 than we do.
