Phil Mickelson and Bones MacKay parting ways......odd?

Pretty late in things for this to be happening now. They are both saying the right things, like it was "mutual" and such......but you aren't with a guy for 25 years and suddenly split in the MIDDLE of the tour season, and before 2 more majors..........something doesn't add up.

I speculate it had something to do with Phil's withdrawal from the US Open......maybe not, but the timing fits.

Phil's old. Bones probably has an opportunity to hook up with a young player that will substantially increase his earnings per year, and Phil probably wants to start slowing down while bringing in his brother (who could probably use the extra cash injection).

You're probably right though, pulling out of the Open probably forced a larger discussion about what it's going to be like going forward.

You do know that Bones had both knees replaced during the winter and he has struggled walking and carrying the bag this year, don't you?

Not everything deserves conspiracy talk like the conservative whackos do with their political spin. A golfer and a caddy is splitting up after 25 years. It is sad as they are a well known team and they actually care for one another but let's not make a National Enquirer story out of this.

I saw what you did there:scream:.. you rascally liberal.was going to ask RPJ if there was some internal strife between the two, but the double knee replacement may have done the trick....btw my next round after the 72 was 82, although from 300 yds farther back

Ok, I get what you are saying about age....however.....Phil wasn't younger before the season started? And he wouldn't be dramatically older after the season ends. The timing is the issue here, in my opinion.

As for Bones knee surgeries, yeah I was aware of that. But Bones has no intentions of retiring. He's said that.

True. But maybe Phil is just changing his attitude with regards to his schedule this season.

Maybe. But, he's not going to sit out the final 2 majors is he? And Bones would definitely benefit on the bag for Phil during those 2 championships. Just seems fishy to me......
