I know I already mentioned it in another thread. But I really think it is a good question.

Is there really any logical explanation or rumor as to why Turner comes off the bench after Benock? We are talking about a guy who played a good number of minutes last year and performed well. If is extremely obvious, he is more talented than Benock. Last night, in limited minutes, he strokes a three from NBA range and picks up a huge steal in the closing minutes. I don't get it.

Anybody close to the team got an answer or rumor?

Coach Stans only subs Phil for Kodi, Benock for Ravern, Barry to 1 Benock to 2 and Osby in @ 3 when Dee goes out......

I will telly you why.....teams have identified Ravern as a ***** earlier and earlier in the game, hence the substitution Benock for Ravern prior to Turner. Coach Stans might as well start Benock against UGA becuase Leslie #1 is going to make Ravern look even worse. Ravern is a massive defensive liability, Polinyce sp? at Ole Miss took him over and over. Rick couldn't get Benock in quickly enough to stop the bleeding. Maybe we could zone to protect Ravern like he did against Olemiss to protect Riek? That seemed to work well enough.

I ***** about Barry, but his defense last night was solid. Credit to him. I know it must kill Coach Stans to watch Kodi and his absentminded ******** and still have to get him minutes because we have no other qualified big bodies to help Jarvis. We will need a good many minutes out of Kodi against UGA too, they play two bigs for a lot of minutes. Pelphry killed us when we tried to play Phil at the 4 last night. I would like us to abuse some teams like that when they try to guard Kodi with some little guy.

One final comment, we need to fire the guy in charge of helping Ravern, Barry, and Jarvis gain muscle. In those nice pictures that someone posted earlier, Ravern was a few meals away from being a fly covered posterboy for why I should donate 75 cents per day to help famine in Ethiopia? Dang. EAT!

Agent, I openly questioned the very same issue last night during the chat. I don't get what Benock brings to the table over Turner. Turner is versatile,
active, athletic, can shoot, a decent ball-handler, etc. Benock can shoot but he can not create his own shot and struggles defensively. I don't see why you would not want more options out there to put pressure on the opposition.

The metabolism of some folks makes it darn near impossible to put weight on them and you want to fire the guy who can't put weight on that type of person?

Or at least have him funnel 8 protein shakes over the course of the day. Or just require that he eat whatever the hell Sydney eats. Something.

We got no depth at post down low without sidney and bailey, Turner is one of the best rebounders, so he has to come in when kodi needs break

and it all boils down to Stansbury's refusal to sub Phil for anyone other than Kodi. I don't know what he's going to do against UGA because UGA has 2 post players that can score. UGA's PF will wear Phil out.

It's so simple. Start Bost, Barry, Ravern, Kodi and Varnado. Then let Osby split time at the 3 and 4. Phil split time at the 2 and 3. Barry rest Bost at the 1. And Lewis rest Varnado at the 5. 8 man rotation. Good versatility. Nice and simple.</p>

a new stength & conditioning coach. that's why we can't ever hold a big lead. our guys are tired at the end of games. too tired to keep playing good defense, too tired to make free throws, too tired to hit jump shots. they all look like muscled up anorexics. they need more weight on them and better stamina. if our S&C coach doesn't understand that, then he needs to be relieved of his duties. i really believe this has a lot too do with our historically bad FT shooting over the last 10 years.

is that Osby comes off the bench after Benock, and yes it is time for Rick to hire a new strength coach.

OSBY > BENOCK

unfortunately this is how stans thinks. so he usually puts benock in to relieve ravern which may lead to him coming in before phil. however phil did play more minutes than benock (19 to 11) its just that benock entered the game first.

If we Let Osby spell Kodi, then Turner could sub in to spell Ravern (or play defense), Barry could then slide up to spell Dee, Benock could still get a few minutes at the 2. And everyone is happy. Phil at the 4 doesn't work well when we play a team that has a big 4 who can score or a coach like Pelphry who can expose that weakness like he did last night.

I am sure that Coach Stans could provide reasons whe Osby doesn't fit at the 4, but Phil Turner getting backed down about 3 or 4 times last night is all the reason that I need to at least give this a try.

Sometimes basketball players are a little cautious about putting on extra size, or even lifting weights. I've heard lots of guys complain about it affecting their shot. Maybe they're a afraid that lifting weight will hurt their performance regardless of what the trainer says.

Me personally, I've never been good enough at basketball to notice any negative affects.

As for Benock - I could care less if he never steps on the floor again.

Does lifting weights hinder someone's abilities in any sport, except for maybe a marathon runner. These guys should be packing on pounds in the off-season, not in season when it's near impossible to do because of time restraint. If someone says lifting weights effects their shot then they're just making excuses for crappy mechanics. Look at all the big programs, and then look at the transition some college players have made after entering the NBA. Putting on pounds of muscle enhances performance, and helps with injury prevention. Give some of these players to the right man and he will leave them no choice but to pack on weight.

Ravern out. Phil in. Ravern comes back in. Barry out. Phil to 2. Barry comes back in at PG. Bost out. Bost back in. Phil out.

Augustus out. Osby in. Augustus back. Osby slide over to 3 or out.

Varnado out. Lewis in. Varnado in. Lewis out.

I realize you are probably being facetious. But after I posted, I had a feeling that exact rebuttal would come up so I will use your reply for my follow up thought.

If a WR /track-star can gain 20 pounds in a year, then sure **** JV, Randy, and Ravern can gain a few lbs. over their careers. In hindsight, I'm pretty happy JV hasn't bulked up b/c that was one of the main reasons he is playing for MSU this year and not an NBA team.
