I missed most of the first half but is there a reason Phil only played 7 minutes? Rick was bringing Osby in for Kodi instead of Phil last night what was that about?

It looks like he only took 1 shot, had 1 rebound, 1 TO, and 1 foul. Was he really that bad for 7 minutes that he couldn't go back in the rest of the game?

Yeah, but Osby doesn't bring any more to the table than Phil that makes a difference. I'd still rather have Phil in there playing with a lot of heart. Osby is dumb and is only good for rebounding and the occasional good offensive play. And does anyone know why the hell Osby fouled twice towards then end in a two possession game with like over a minute and a half left. It seemed pretty intentional. Does not surprise me if Stans the Man Bury told him too but...

looked like 2 intentional fouls to stop the clock or something. He did foul Auburn's worst free throw shooter (51%) and he happened to muster up some nuts and nail 4 in a row. of course that happens when the pressure is on.

Phil also jacks up too many 3 pointers as soon as he gets the ball. It's nice when he makes them, but that is not always the shot Stans is looking for.

but I can't blame them. It's not like they're getting any offensive instruction from the bench.

There was a dead ball w/AU inbounding from under their basket. When the huddles broke Osby quickly ran to ref on the baseline and whispered something in his ear. Then as soon as his man touched it he fouled. That was the first of those 2 fouls that were mentioned above. I thought when I saw him talking to ref he must be telling him either he was going to foul his man immediatelyor we were about to run the fumble-ruskie and for the ref not to blow the play dead when the ball was laying on the floor.

being there I was actually shocked few times b/c we ran actual offensive plays that looked good. A few times anyway.

When we came out of that timeout with about two minutes left, Osby made a beeline for the baseline official where the ball was being inbounded, and whispered something in his ear. Then as soon as Knox got the ball, Osby hacked him. Obviously he had been telling the ref that we were about to go into hack-a-Knox mode.

Unrelated to this are the posts on the board that say "Auburn played their best game in X years blah blah blah." Not true. Waller did what he has done four games in a row and many times over his two years here. Knox made open layups and dunks. Nothing special about that. Reed and Hargrove were average. They didn't do anything they haven't done a hundred times before. The problem last night was that we made things far, far too easy for them. We got abused in the zone by either the shooters, mainly Waller, or on the backside, particularly the few minutes Phil played down there, but he was by no means the only guilty one. But Auburn's pre-conference and early conference struggles are a thing of the past. Auburn played Kentucky to the wire this year, blew out UGA, blew out LSU, and handled Arkansas and Bama pretty easily. They have also gotten better all year long. Lebo's problem is it took him so long to get them playing well that he might still lose his job. Since starting 1-5 in the league, Auburn is 5-4 with two road overtime losses (MSU and Ark), a UM road loss in which they had a good sized second half lead, and a close loss at Florida. If they beat Bama on Saturday to finish 7-9, and if UM beats Arkansas, Auburn finishes third in the West because they will win the tiebreaker with the Hogs. If the season was 4-5 more games, I suspect they would catch us.

I guess what I am trying to say is we lost to a team with a bad RPI who is playing well. With all we had to play for, we could have and should have won, but we made too many mistakes on the floor and from the bench, and that was that.

I tivo'd it and watched it again and our defense was awful and we had little or no effort on the boards except for Jarvis. Phil lost his man twice in the 7 minutes he played and also threw an awful pass that Auburn took in. I agree it would have taken a big effort but we layed an egg and that is all that can be said. Now we have to win at least two and mayb three to have a chance to get picked at all for the dance.

he seems lost about half the time and the other half he's playing with about half the effort he played with at anytime last year.

considering he hit the game winner at LSU a couple of weeks ago. He has taken a backseat to the other prima donas all year. In the last 3 games since the win at LSU, Phil has played a total of 24 minutes. In the last 2 games, He has not even touched the floor in the 2nd half. I remember Stanstalking tothe media when they were pressing him for a response as to why Phil wasn't starting. He said it wasn't important who started, but who was finishing the game. Phil has a year of eligibility left but will graduate in May, I wouldn't be surprised to see him not return to Miss State. WhatPhil lacks in ability, he makes up for in heart and determination. We NEED Phil in the line-up for our only chance to go to the NCAA. The other players feed off his energy late in games.

his "energy" that we saw so much of last year hasn't been there much this year. Don't know why. But he hasn't played well in a while.

I'll admit I am a little biased. That being said, How is Phil supposed to play with confidence when playing the 4 spot against much larger and stronger players. Stans is playing him out of position but he doesn't complain or go off on the team or coaches. He's a team player. I think he deserves better than the way he has been treated this season. Hell, play the man in a position at least a little where he can perform well, and let the team feed off his energy.
