Defensive unit has been lights out so far in the playoffs. Besides a mental error leading to a touchdown in the first defensive drive of the playoffs the defense has completely shut down the opposing teams' offenses. Today they faced a back that entered the game with 2,037 yards and 23 TDs but they held him to just 37 yards on 16 carries. Dominating defenses is what won Phoebus 7 AAA titles between 2001-2011. Next up is Blacksburg...can't wait

I think Phoebus beats Blacksburg and then plays Staunton River for state.
That's the scenario I want. I know the kids are seeing those scores and want a chance to play against that offense.
No question Phoebus has an above average def. and getting better each game. However you have to be able to put points on the board. Lets not fool our self's this is 3A
unlike 5 & 6 you have to be able to move the ball. Phoebus needs to go back to 5A . They will always be # 1 seed based on the power points from 5 and 6 , sorry VHSL not very fair , Also attendance for the games are low.

An above average defense? Lol the defense is playing at a level no other team in 3A is at. Since those two horrible L's Phoebus has outscored teams 165-7. Phoebus has the ability to put points on the board...just because it wasn't 40+ yesterday doesn't mean anything. The objective of the game is to have more points than your opponent by the end of the game. You say unlike 5&6 you have to be able to move the ball only because of those ridiculous scores that are going on out West and none of those teams have played anyone near the defense that Phoebus has.
Phoebus is exactly where they need to be. Why should they be in 5A, because they're good and they can compete with some of the bigger schools????? They have the numbers to be in 3A - period. I've seen many 5A and 6A football games where offenses have struggled, its all relative. How much offense was needed for the Broncos last year to be world champs....
You have to give credit where credit is due. Phoebus defense has been extremely good so far. They have talent all over the place and swarm to the ball. They play a regular season schedule that features mostly higher populated schools. Blacksburg has been the road warriors of this years playoffs. Winning 3 straight on the road is no simple task. It can easily be argued that Beck is the fastest rb in the state. Blacksburg will have to keep the defense guessing. It should be a great game. Good luck to both
This should be a VERY interesting game! For Phoebus to be putting up the defensive numbers they have, says something about the team as a whole. Very impressive!
@HooaCav I had the chance to watch SR play last week. Great community support, great coaches/players and an overall class act. Congrats on a terrific season and good luck the rest of the playoffs.

WELP! I guess these "weak 3A playoffs" (as you stated on the 4A board) were too much for that lights-out defense.
