Not sure if he's on the PSU radar, but I saw the Grove City 107# the last two weeks in Sharon. Apparently, he's a stud.

I'm sure they know of him. He's just a freshman, so he's a few years away, and they'll have to see what he grows to. Heading into States, he was 44-0 on the season. (Chase Karenbauer is his name.)

Chase Karenbauer won a loaded field at Powerade, including beating both Eli Herring and Justin Farnsworth (Malvern Prep).

Oh BTW, his head coach is Cael alum Wes Phipps.

So yeah, the PSU coaches are fully aware of him.

I figured as much but didn't know all that. Thanks.

Afraid I’ll have to wishfully root against Cunningham for this one.

Shik: class of 1990

AA 133 lb finals. The only thing standing between VT commit Aaron Seidel and a fourth PIAA state championship…Jax Forrest. Seidel is 205-3 for his career. His only three losses are to Forrest (11-4 earlier this year), Leo DeLuca and Anthony Mutarelli. Impressive.

Congrats to the two Council Rock state champions, Mutarelli and Sement. If Mutarelli started his career at CRS he would have have won multiple championships.

How good is Cunningham? Will he be a productive college wrestler?

He’s been dominating this year and seems to have really jumped levels (I’m sure his access to coaching and partners helps 😀). The kid that he beat in the finals and TF’d at regionals last week is legit.

I also wonder if some of that is his dad’s coaching experience as it relates to developing at a measured pace (vs. the typical wrestling dad who’s often pushing their kids at a young age)? I saw Cael’s son wrestle at youth states last year and the year prior as my youngest was wrestling there, and he went 0-2 both years. This year he won JR High states, in fairly dominant fashion.

Just a note of surprise, and congratulations, to the Girls SE Region, for their success at the 2025 Girls States. I believe the regions are configured differently for Girls wrestling, so it's not an apple-for-apple comparison with the Boy's SE Region. That said, check this out (each weight class at which the Girls compete in PIAA):

100 lbs: 1st: Ashley Stank (Quakertown) -- SE Region
106 lbs: 1st: Julia Horger (Conwell-Egan) -- SE Region (in the Final she defeated Morgan Hyland (Easton), also of SE Region)
112 lbs: 6th: Grace Nesbitt (Neshaminy) -- SE Region (she was SE-4, but bested the 3 girls that placed higher than her at the SE Regional)
118: 1st: Savannah Witt (Palisades) -- SE Region (in the Final she defeated Samiyah Rahming (Northeast), also of SE Region)
124: 1st: Neve O'Byrne (Garnet Valley) -- SE Region (in the Final she defeated Julissa Ortiz (Mariana Bracetti Academy), also of SE Region)
130: 1st: Aubre Krazer (Easton) -- SE Region
136: 2nd: Sarah Pearson (Downingtown West) -- SE Region
142: 2nd: Angelina Spaceman (Parkland) -- SE Region
148: 2nd: Jameson Strickland (Sun Valley) -- SE Region
155: 6th: Myles Lambert (Northampton) -- SE Region
170: 2nd: Bryce Snyder (Palisades) -- SE Region
190: 1st: Caroline Hattala (Quakertown) -- SE Region
235: 1st: Brenda Banks (Panther Valley -- SE Region

So there were only two weight classes where SE Region didn't have a finalist.

Only time will tell. But he's pretty darn good. Here are his finishes in Class AAA PIAA States in high school:

2022: 120 -- 8th
2023: 145 -- 4th
2024: 160 -- 1st
2025: 172 -- 1st

He can be, if he makes the lineup. He has a shot at it, but we're kinda loaded at his weights, so it's not a given.

He needs to work on neutral, specifically better shots and cleaner finishes. Very good scrambler, but sometimes too reliant on that. This cost him against Henckel and both times against Burton this year, which is the level of guy he needs to beat to make the lineup and the podium.

If he can clean that up and makes the lineup, I don't doubt he'll be an AA. He's very good on the mat, and unorthodox. He'll be an adjustment for a lot of guys.

He's also improved quite a bit this year. Lost one match last year (to Aaron Stewart from Illinois), and controlled Stewart this year. Widened the gap against most opponents from last year to this. Good pace and attack mentality.
