I know why it’s not on pick ‘em (I would pick Salem to win too), but Salem/Franklin County is going to be interesting Friday. Was not expecting them to beat Bassett last night. FC normally has great community support and with the Spartans coming to town, it’s going to be a great atmosphere in Rocky Mount. FC traditionally plays Salem very competitively.
Franklin Co is usually pretty physical, so it will be another test for Salem. The Spartans have a lot of things to iron out.
I should be at the game Fri. FC is a nice place to watch a game and the environment should be pretty good Fri night.
I agree. That’s the big game I’d circle next week. Franklin County surprised me.
If I did not have to go to the opposite side of the state Saturday, I’d be there. Franklin County took Western Branch to the wire in the playoffs (FC was actually up late) and WB went on to beat a very good Manchester in the next round. Good to see them building something. It’s been a long time coming in Rocky Mount.
Oh yeah. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t have a great football program.

Agreed. Sounds like Amherst is in even worse shape than last year which was average at best. Is GWD down a little this year or Dinwiddie just THAT good? How did those teams fare in their benefit games?
A little of both. GW is a year away from competing with the big boys. I do think they’ll give Glass a game in a few weeks.
How you feel about Amherst this year? I sure do miss Appo not playing you guys, hopefully we can again in the near future.
That game will tell you a lot about both teams. I'm not quite sure what to make of Glass yet and I saw them last week.
I think D is just down in general this year, next year should be better.
Glass will whip up on Gretna this week so that game wont show you anything about Glass.
I agree. When Dixon comes back, GW will be a lot better in terms of competing with teams in the region. He is a huge loss to a very young team. He wouldn’t have made a 52 point difference Friday by any means but he definitely would have saved a TD or two and scored a TD or two. Same thing with Salem not having Lewis.
EPJr, you are all alone with your BT over Hampton pick, but I almost went that way too. Just the thought of a team like BT being better than mighty Hampton is a hard pill to swallow. But, BT played a tough Petersburg team well, and Hampton was only able to score 16 on Gloucester. So maybe you are correct.
Has anyone watched Massaponax or King George? King George is probably the only team that can challenge Varina and Dinwiddie in 4B.
Very true ! Much respect to what Coach Wakefield has been building. I think they were hit a hard by graduation and this might be more of a build for next year season
The powers that “know” have them ranked number 10 right behind King George which is number eight. They have a tremendous LL feeder program and their middle school is always good,feeding them a wealth of talent. You may be right, but quite honestly, IMHO, it’s Varina’s division to lose!
Those same powers have Louisa ranked ahead of us...smh.
We dominated Louisa last year and are improved over last year and those in the "know" ranked Louisa at 5 and us at 8...
Bro.....Make sure the light bulbs in the score board are fresh. Salem Spartans will hang half a hundred on them jits. Salem will score by land, air and sea!
Salem sure did not light the scoreboard up against Martinsburg! They got embarrassed in every shape of the word!
