If you were Stoops and had to fire your DC/friend, who would you hire to take some of that sting away? Let's say top five (reasonable) choices.

And here, we... Go.

Ed Orgeron after Herman or Petrino take the LSU job.

About as possible as Kiffin from Ole Miss, who I would take first.

If Stoops is to remain head coach the rest of the year and it appears he is, he needs to be the DC and leave the offense in the hands of Gran.

Agreed. No need to fire/hire before the end of the season. Stoops needs to retain control of the defense. And if I were him I'd retain control next yr as well.....until either he's fired or gets us to a bowl game (thereby providing the appearance of stability).....then make a hire.

One problem UK will have hiring a new DC, unless we make a major turnaround, Stoops is a dead man walking and ever possible DC knows it. Would you accept a job knowing it's likely you will be fired after next year? I suspect any desirable DC will demand a big guaranteed contract.

Art Briles so he is already on Staff when Stoops get fired next year. Nobody with any sense is coming here for one year. The writing is on the wall.

Pellini or Orgeron are the first two that come to mind.

I'm sure there are others.
Those two guys would either be looking a HC job, or, at least, a premiere DC job.

For me, House would be a realistic option, or maybe Ansley. Or maybe Stoops will be the de facto DC and he keeps Eliot as the figurehead.
