I don't care who we play as long as it isn't the pitters. We will likely lose the game because scads of players will opt out. We will be playing with third string offensive linemen, no running backs with any experience whatsoever, no defensive ends or down linemen, and few experienced DBs. I expect we will lose the bowl game and I don't care as long as we don't lose to the pitters.

Now that players are paid I assume they have contracts. I can’t imagine anyone would cut a check unless the player signed agreeing to play in bowl games. Anyone have insight into this?

KingLando has.
I just dont pretend the outcome of the game matters. Hopefully the seniors opt out and the younger guys get an opportunity after working hard all year. This is the same as the Blue White Game only dudes are wearing different uniforms...like in the NFL during the preseason and even camp.
Enjoy the game...perfect ending to a perfect to a perfect season

It's not play for pay...and why would anyone care if they opt out of a bowl game? Just be upfront about it unlike Franklin last time against Ole Miss.

Why would anyone care? I guess I’m old fashioned, but if I pay someone I expect them to honor our agreement.
Bowl games aren't part of the agreement. The semester is over as is their commitment. Now if you want to write something in about the playoff that would be understandable but there's only been 1 contributor dumb enough to leave early with their team in the playoff

1987 season, we decided to go to the (then) Citrus Bowl in Orlando to see us play 9-2 Clemson. We were 8-3, and had just upset ND at home, 21-20, in a tremendous, and very cold, game. Stopped a last minute(ish) 2-pt conversion to save the win. 3 losses were to Alabama, Syracuse (11-0-1, tied Auburn in the Sugar), and a bad loss to Pitt out there, 10-0.

Then, Blair Thomas blows out his knee in bowl game practice. Uh oh.
Anyway, great first-time trip for us to Orlando and the many attractions down there.
Then came New Year's Day and the game. We lost the game to Clemson and their weasel of a coach Danny Ford, 35-10. We played badly. The Clemson fans were ok, though.
Blair has to sit out 1988 to repair his knee, and we go 5-6 for the first losing record since about 1938 or some such.

I hope we have a strong enough contingent of key players to be able to make it a competitive and interesting game this time around.

Who coaches and how many opt outs for PSU? Game of two teams that had really high preseason aspirations for CFP participation and then struggled mightily.
Realistically, both have older rosters so expect a lot of kids to sit out on both sides. Klubnik, for example is getting ready for the draft as are several of his teammates. For PSU, well you guys know the mess. I expect no Dani, Vega, no backs, no Hudson, Ross or Pena, no Harris or Wheatley at a minimum plus portal guys moving on.

Maybe they can rename it the "Backup Bowl" ?
