Pisgah playing well, as Landon Pope had 45 carries, 306 yds, and 5 tds as they defeated West Hendo 41-26. THS lost to Franklin 28-7.

Details on some of the plans for 50/50.How much will the split the pot get up to this year?
Me and Otis is going to make the tripAll of those Tuscola fans are nowhere to be found. Think they know what's coming?
I hope you guys enjoy your time up. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Gofan.com and I would recommend it.Me and Otis is going to make the trip
Last yr at Pisgah the gross 50/50 was $34,000. That was small because of Helene. Two years Tuscola 50/50 was at $25,000. Recently Pisgah had a couple of years $40k+. Winning fans left with $20k+Thanks. Otis has hooked us up. Can’t wait for the atmosphere and the game will be one to remember
I sure appreciated all of that. My dad’s family lived in the Cataloochee Valley and left before the park service bought everything. So I am not sure if what side that would put us on lol? I am really getting interested in researching the family tree and seeing how everything fits together. I read about anything I can find that has Haywood County in it.10000 fans would be what the crowd averages for this game regularly. The largest crowds have been estimated around 13-14k. Another thing that makes this unique, this type of attendance was being done when our county population was in the high 40k range. County population is still around 60k so a very large turnout for that size area. If you’re a fan of the visiting team and you want a seat, you probably better find one by 5:30. The 50/50 has kind of taken on a life of its own and become a unique talking point especially to only be a weeklong option.
I’ve heard people mention Richmond/Scotland for NC but I think manufacturing loss has caused that one to lose some of luster. I don’t think anything else has ever been close but I could be wrong.
This game is special, Haywood County is special, and the Canton/Bethel area is real special when it comes to supporting their youth and I’ve tried to remind my kids of that as they come up through the ranks. “Be thankful, enjoy it, and do not think this kind of support is every where so always be appreciative.”
I know Tuscola has had events going on throughout the week and so has Pisgah so it’s a spectacle. Especially having ties to the county, (hopefully the good side) you should definitely come and take it all in one year.
You can listen to the JV and Varsity games, if you download the WPTL Radio app. JV game starts at 6:30 pm, and the Varsity Pregame starts at 6:30. Kick off is at 7:30.Canton not Carbon in my previous post. That darn automatic spell check changing things… or my fat fingers lol???

Those attendance numbers are just something else!! That is some real bragging rights for that kind of a turn out from a rural western mountain county! And Haywood looks huge size wise? Some of those poor kids must be on the school bus forever to get to school? Then I read Haywood has the highest average elevation east of Texas!? So I can imagine what the mountain roads are like getting kids to school in the winter?
I drive all over for work so driving doesn’t bother me to come down. Just trying to get away from work is my challenge and it’s gonna be a last minute decision. Carbon had the paper mill that closed right? Was it over 100 years old? What a shame too for losing all those good paying jobs.
You all really do right by your kids by supporting them and keeping them busy and interested in something to do. Seems like all of you mountain counties really do a great job of that. I couldn’t believe how well Robbinsville does at it and then got to ready about your county. I know I sound like a broken record but it really is something special what you all have going on there. Good luck to both sides and I hope I can find a way to watch it if I can’t come down? Is it on tv or the internet? Thanks again for the reply brother!! Good luck to your school!
I went to log in one day and the place didn’t exist. Finally found it. Thought I was banned……. Again…. LOLThey hadn’t been real active on the old site in a while but I believe I’ve only seen one that has been on since the site change. There’s hardly anyone on here from our conference at all.
They will be several thousand at the JV game tonight Most likely more on the visitors side than we have had all year for the varsity games..Bears ore unbeaten and Tuscola one loss.Should be a good one.You can listen to the JV and Varsity games, if you download the WPTL Radio app. JV game starts at 6:30 pm, and the Varsity Pregame starts at 6:30. Haywood is big but like a lot of mountain counties a lot of our land is either Pisgah National Forest (Shining Rock and Middle Prong Wildernesses) or Great Smoky Mtn. National Park so a lot of the outer reaches forest roads and woods. However, a ride from Lake Logan or Cruso communities (furthest south/Pisgah district) to communities like Mt. Sterling, upper Crabtree, White Oak or Fines Creek (North/Tuscola district) is definitely a haul.I sure appreciated all of that. Yes, looking forward to the JV game tonight. I think we’re a little more balanced team overall but it seems like Tuscola’s group has played pretty stingy defense. Of course, our first string D has only given up 1 TD all year with the 2nds/3rds getting a lot of playing time in games so I guess we’re pretty stingy too. They will be several thousand at the JV game tonight Most likely more on the visitors side than we have had all year for the varsity games..Bears ore unbeaten and Tuscola one loss.Should be a good one.
Well thank ya brother!! I really appreciate that!!!That would put you on the tuscola side.
My aunts family was from cataloochee as well. Welcome aboard.
Thank you for the info!! Will do that!!You can listen to the JV and Varsity games, if you download the WPTL Radio app. JV game starts at 6:30 pm, and the Varsity Pregame starts at 6:30. Kick off is at 7:30.
WPTL will broadcast the JV game tonight.Haywood is big but like a lot of mountain counties a lot of our land is either Pisgah National Forest (Shining Rock and Middle Prong Wildernesses) or Great Smoky Mtn. National Park so a lot of the outer reaches forest roads and woods. However, a ride from Lake Logan or Cruso communities (furthest south/Pisgah district) to communities like Mt. You’re correct, Canton did have the paper mill, which is still very visible but currently being demolished. The old whistle from the mill was removed and placed on the Pisgah scoreboard and blows to start the football games.
You’re right the mountain schools overall do a good job of supporting their kids from a community standpoint and I think a lot of that has to do with there is still a “sense of place” in these hills. Kids are still playing for their towns/ communities the same as it has been for a while. People are from here and have been here for long time and the schools the kids are playing for their dads and grandads also played for. That’s not everyone obviously, but enough to where that identity bleeds over to newcomers. Other communities, to no fault of their own, have lost a little of that with population growth and new schools being opened so it isn’t the same.
As mentioned above, if you’d like to listen to the game WPTL 920 does a good job with the broadcast, however, there have been a few years where the Pisgah/ Tuscola have taxed the cell service in the area around the field and that has affected the broadcast.
That’s the finalJV
Pisgah 38
Tuscola 6
3 minutes to go in the 3rd
Pisgah JVs have only allowed 1 offensive TD all seasonThat’s the final
Are you saying our lake Junaluska playbook didn’t work? LMAOThat’s the final
Yes, and even that one we gave Franklin an extremely short field two possessions in a row due to offensive miscues before they punched it in.Pisgah JVs have only allowed 1 offensive TD all season
Are you saying our lake Junaluska playbook didn’t work? LMAO![]()
Pisgah moves to third in 4A west RPI. Looks like that Brevard Pisgah game will decide who is number one in conference and in the west 4APisgah wins again 35-14, and RB Landon Pope had another monster game with 289 yds. and 4 TDs. Pisgah controlled the clock, and only threw the ball 4 times all game, including a late TD with 3 mins. to go in the 4th quarter. Go Bears,!
It's 40-40-20 this year. What are the weights/percentages assigned to winning percentage, opponent’s winning percentage, and opponents opponents’ winning percentage this year?
I know it got restructured but couldn’t remember the percentages
Thank you. We may drop a position or two over the next two weeks with our bye and East Henderson’s 0 winning percentage but a win over Brevard would cure all ails RPI-wise in the end. It's 40-40-20 this year.
Brevard never dropped after beating East, Friday. If we don't beat Brevard but keep it close, we should still be in the top five. The last two games the Bears offence has had the ball over 30 minutes .If we do that at Brevard we can win.Thank you. We may drop a position or two over the next two weeks with our bye and East Henderson’s 0 winning percentage but a win over Brevard would cure all ails RPI-wise in the end.
