If we play as physical as we did in the 2nd half of Franklin or against West Henderson, we win. Tuscola seems to be solid on defense and will get after it, and I know Trantham and Hyatt will be keyed up for them.

Cut out the penalties and turnovers that have resulted in points for our opponents, play our game, and we win. We’re the better team this year but that team doesn’t always win this game. Should be fun, I hope we set the tone.

Its Pisgah and Tuscola anything can happen.Tuscola QB did not play in the Franklin game .With him Tuscola had a chance but without him Bears should win .

When the game is at Tuscola it usually isn’t quite as large of a pot. It won’t be a bad haul for someone just usually less total dollars.

Last yr at Pisgah the gross 50/50 was $34,000. That was small because of Helene. Two years Tuscola 50/50 was at $25,000. Recently Pisgah had a couple of years $40k+. Winning fans left with $20k+

This has to be one of the biggest high school games anywhere in the country? I live in West Virginia and I am mostly on the 1A site. My dad’s family was from Haywood County originally and moved to WV to coal mine. Once I got on this site I looked up Haywood schools and I couldn’t believe the history of these 2 playing with such a huge crowd!? The only thing close to this in WV is Bluefield, WV vs Graham, Va. They say they have had 10 thousand in attendance before at the game before? There has to be even more than that at this game from the size of the 50/50? Is there any other NC schools that have this kind of a crowd or rivalry at a game? You all should be proud of the spirit and pride you all have in those 2 schools! I am seriously thinking about coming down to see what a huge game like that is really like. I just want to wish both teams good luck and hope the players and fans have a great game and get home and off the field safe and healthy! Haywood County Proud!!!

10000 fans would be what the crowd averages for this game regularly. The largest crowds have been estimated around 13-14k. Another thing that makes this unique, this type of attendance was being done when our county population was in the high 40k range. County population is still around 60k so a very large turnout for that size area. If you’re a fan of the visiting team and you want a seat, you probably better find one by 5:30. The 50/50 has kind of taken on a life of its own and become a unique talking point especially to only be a weeklong option.

I’ve heard people mention Richmond/Scotland for NC but I think manufacturing loss has caused that one to lose some of luster. I don’t think anything else has ever been close but I could be wrong.

This game is special, Haywood County is special, and the Canton/Bethel area is real special when it comes to supporting their youth and I’ve tried to remind my kids of that as they come up through the ranks. “Be thankful, enjoy it, and do not think this kind of support is every where so always be appreciative.”

I know Tuscola has had events going on throughout the week and so has Pisgah so it’s a spectacle. Especially having ties to the county, (hopefully the good side 😜) you should definitely come and take it all in one year.

I sure appreciated all of that. My dad’s family lived in the Cataloochee Valley and left before the park service bought everything. So I am not sure if what side that would put us on lol? I am really getting interested in researching the family tree and seeing how everything fits together. I read about anything I can find that has Haywood County in it.
Those attendance numbers are just something else!! That is some real bragging rights for that kind of a turn out from a rural western mountain county! And Haywood looks huge size wise? Some of those poor kids must be on the school bus forever to get to school? Then I read Haywood has the highest average elevation east of Texas!? So I can imagine what the mountain roads are like getting kids to school in the winter?
I drive all over for work so driving doesn’t bother me to come down. Just trying to get away from work is my challenge and it’s gonna be a last minute decision. Carbon had the paper mill that closed right? Was it over 100 years old? What a shame too for losing all those good paying jobs.
You all really do right by your kids by supporting them and keeping them busy and interested in something to do. Seems like all of you mountain counties really do a great job of that. I couldn’t believe how well Robbinsville does at it and then got to ready about your county. I know I sound like a broken record but it really is something special what you all have going on there. Good luck to both sides and I hope I can find a way to watch it if I can’t come down? Is it on tv or the internet? Thanks again for the reply brother!! Good luck to your school!

Haywood is big but like a lot of mountain counties a lot of our land is either Pisgah National Forest (Shining Rock and Middle Prong Wildernesses) or Great Smoky Mtn. National Park so a lot of the outer reaches forest roads and woods. However, a ride from Lake Logan or Cruso communities (furthest south/Pisgah district) to communities like Mt. Sterling, upper Crabtree, White Oak or Fines Creek (North/Tuscola district) is definitely a haul.

You’re correct, Canton did have the paper mill, which is still very visible but currently being demolished. The old whistle from the mill was removed and placed on the Pisgah scoreboard and blows to start the football games.

You’re right the mountain schools overall do a good job of supporting their kids from a community standpoint and I think a lot of that has to do with there is still a “sense of place” in these hills. Kids are still playing for their towns/ communities the same as it has been for a while. People are from here and have been here for long time and the schools the kids are playing for their dads and grandads also played for. That’s not everyone obviously, but enough to where that identity bleeds over to newcomers. Other communities, to no fault of their own, have lost a little of that with population growth and new schools being opened so it isn’t the same.

As mentioned above, if you’d like to listen to the game WPTL 920 does a good job with the broadcast, however, there have been a few years where the Pisgah/ Tuscola have taxed the cell service in the area around the field and that has affected the broadcast.

Yes, looking forward to the JV game tonight. I think we’re a little more balanced team overall but it seems like Tuscola’s group has played pretty stingy defense. Of course, our first string D has only given up 1 TD all year with the 2nds/3rds getting a lot of playing time in games so I guess we’re pretty stingy too. 😁

Weather should make for a great evening of football!

Are you saying our lake Junaluska playbook didn’t work? LMAO😂
🤣
I will give you this. #57 is a dang smart and savvy defensive linemen for you guys. High motor kid. Lucas also laid some licks from the LB spot. When we unintentionally pooch kicked it and then recovered it 25ish yards deep, that was a willbreaker.

Pisgah wins again 35-14, and RB Landon Pope had another monster game with 289 yds. and 4 TDs. Pisgah controlled the clock, and only threw the ball 4 times all game, including a late TD with 3 mins. to go in the 4th quarter. Go Bears,🐻!
Pisgah moves to third in 4A west RPI. Looks like that Brevard Pisgah game will decide who is number one in conference and in the west 4A

As it stands right now if Brevard wins out then we are #1 and if Brevard beats west hendo and tuscola and then drops to Pisgah I assume that would make Pisgah #1 in west 4a and us #3 along with a 3way tie with Franklin for conference

What are the weights/percentages assigned to winning percentage, opponent’s winning percentage, and opponents opponents’ winning percentage this year?

I know it got restructured but couldn’t remember the percentages

Dominating performance from the Bears! I'm a little surprised the winner of the 50/50 only took home $13.900 bucks. We'll do better next year in Canton. Gotta get that take home up to 20k!

Thank you. We may drop a position or two over the next two weeks with our bye and East Henderson’s 0 winning percentage but a win over Brevard would cure all ails RPI-wise in the end.
Brevard never dropped after beating East, Friday. If we don't beat Brevard but keep it close, we should still be in the top five. The last two games the Bears offence has had the ball over 30 minutes .If we do that at Brevard we can win.
