I would think we are sitting as pretty as possible with our arms for Wed however Forbes decides to roll with it.

DeCaro on 4 days
McDuffie threw 63 but with 2 days rest he could be good for an inning or 2.
Glauber should be good to go.
Lynch if it came down to it (no need to with all the other arms) could go a few with 2 days rest after 74 pitches.

Then have Rose and Boaz that haven't thrown at all.

By far better situation than I imagined.

All true… Same situation as a regional - someone has to beat us twice. So it’s not a one game blind decision to make. Forbes will still go with whatever gives us the best chance to win that Wednesday game… with a tiny eye to maybe needing to play another day.

Really curious who he calls on to start. Rose? Globe? Boaz? I’m thinking someone other than Globe because it’s not an elimination game like last Sunday was.

Thinking ahead but it has to go into the equation… JD could pitch Thursday if needed, but then he’d be likely out for a possible championship series that would start on Saturday. That’d be kinda crazy…

In my mind, absolute ideal situation would be for Rose to start and make it 5, and then let globe and duff finish it off. We’d then have our whole staff pretty much on schedule to start the championship series.

I think it will come down to Forbes and Gaines knowing each kid’s tendencies.

Who pitches better on more rest? Who needs to pitch regularly without too many days off?

We will have virtually everyone available (except DeCaro, realistically). It’ll be fun to see how they put these puzzle pieces together.

I don’t think you start Glauber. Really is a tough one. If you’re in a do or die game, I’d want to save DeCaro rested and ready to go but you could easily make the argument for Jason and then you have Lynch in the elimination game and Glauber is ready in either situation whenever Forbes needs it. Would be interesting to give bulk innings to Boaz/Rose and see if they can keep us in a game but don’t want to get cute with it

Whoever we play will be deep into their bullpen. We have to score runs to make it easier on our staff.
💯

And if we’re not wearing the Carolina blue pinstripes our equipment guy needs to override any other options, lol. I knew we’d wear today’s uni as it seems to be Lynch’s preference… but we gotta get the best unis in baseball on the national stage!

To me it’d be Folger Boaz or Jackson Rose starting the next game.

If we can get to the finals and have Jason on full rest for game 1, that’s best possible scenario. But if there’s a winner take all game of our bracket on Thursday, obviously DeCaro throws that game. Just wouldn’t leave us in quite as good of a position in the championship series.

I don’t think I’m starting Glauber and having him potentially throw 100 pitches in a game I don’t *have* to win and maybe putting myself in a situation where he’s barely available in a championship series. I’m going to him with a lead in the 5th or whatever.

The top 4 arms have done their job to get us to 2-0. Other guys have to give us some innings. Better to ask them to do it in this situation than out of the pen against Georgia.

Good problem to have. I think I’d roll with Decaro on Wednesday and see how the game plays out. Ideally a 70-75 pitch outing with good run support, with Rose and Matty in relief would put him (and bullpen) in good shape for Sunday’s game on 3 day’s rest. If we are fortunate enough to make the finals you have to pitch him in Game 1 or 2. In the event that Wednesday’s game is tight, I’d let him carry us hopefully 7 innings then let Duff and/or Glauber do their thing.

If you don’t start him on Wednesday and we lose, he absolutely has to go in the Thursday elimination game. Then you have to make some tough decisions on rest for Game 1 or 2 of the finals.

My guess is that it will be some combination of Boaz and Rose, with maybe a RH in between (or to close), unless Troy wins and turns out to have a .450 batting average against lefties.

Definitely a good position to be in! An argument can be made for multiple players. Definitely an advantage of that first bracket is the extra day’s rest. I hope bracket number 2 isn’t resolved until Thursday! This is what Forbes gets paid for……….in SF I trust!!

I would def start with Rose, then Boaz for a couple of innings, I would not want Decaro Pitching til the finals. Its imperative we score a bunch of runs, take pressure off of pitching staff. Perfect world we score enough to not have to use Decaro, Glauber or Duffie until the finals.

Start Rose with plans to bring Glauber in. Save Decaro for Thursday or Saturday.
Yep. You are still trying to win the whole thing. Rose has the numbers and the recent success to justify him starting Wednesday. If he delivers a gem, then we are set up as well as we possibly could be for a three-game championship series.

I just don’t think the staff trusts Boaz against righties anymore. And the best hitters on Troy and WVU are righties.

ideally, it would be Rose to McDuffie to Glauber. With the right lead and matchup, I could see Forbes wanting to get Matty on the mound to break the seal before a final series.

The goal is to win the college World Series. In my humble opinion, the best way to do that is to win Wednesday’s game. To me, the best way to win Wednesday’s game is to start globe. I understand why some people think we should start Boaz our Rose, but I don’t want to be behind when we bring globe in.

Pitching is the team strength no question (among many strengths), and if UNC wins Wednesday that strength only gets magnified with the additional rest.
A noteworthy trend is that of the last 30 baseball national champions, only 2 have had a team ERA higher than 4.6 and none over 4.7. Of the teams left this year, only 4 meet that criteria and only 1 of those is left in the winners bracket. Note also that UGA does not (4.83).

Only downside to going Rose is if the opponent is Troy. They appear to smash lefties

Is the best way to win the College World Series having Glauber unavailable for games 1 and 2 of the championship series?
