Com’on man 👨

For every loss there’s a win.
He was trying to imply Pope had only lost one less game than those probation teams in a much shorter time period. In reality Pope has already played one more game at this point. I acknowledged the scenarios are certainly different and I had much more confidence in Pitino at that point by comparison but there is no need to exaggerate reality.

Y'all are doing great with Pope. He's one of y'all and he knows the assignment. He'll get you there.

Pitinos teams always played hard. The players were committed to effort. I can’t speak St John’s, but at UL his teams busted their *** with less talent. At very bare minimum Pope doesn’t lead to effort. I could take couple of seasons of building a program with Pope. But not with the gross incompetence in coaching, motivating, leadership and lastly not instilling importance of effort and trying. This team is leading him, not Pope leading the team. If he was affiliated with me at work, he would have been fired already. But I believe in a meritocracy and winning. Others on this forum, Mitch and the UK Trustees don’t and for them Pope is a perfect fit.

Wonder if Pope brought in Jared Prickett or Ron Mercer to assist with coaching if it would make a difference? He would be comfortable with ex-teammates and the team could benefit from that type of knowledge and comradery?

I remember as an article in some publication (Basketball Digest?) back then that coaches would send in one of their plays to show how the offense worked. Pitino sent one in that had so many parts and moves it looked almost like scribble. But that was who he was. You had a job and if you didn't do it you didn't play. But even Pitino couldn't stay that strong. after 9/11, when he lost his brother in law. Still Pitino but a little less fiery.

Heard he struggled. While he was struggling did yall have any hope he would get better? Did he give yall signs that improvement was on the way? Did yall see a championship in his future before he won it?

I feel helpless with Pope in every aspect.

No fire. No preparation. No talent. No pride. Actually it seems to be the complete opposite of playing for the name on the front of the jersey.
Pitino went 14-14 in his first season at UK with a roster that had no business winning more than 4-5 games. You could see it immediately with him!

So that adds up to how I feel this season. I haven’t been upset that we are losing. It’s the way we lose that so many have stated. If there were recruits on the way. Fight in the players. Losses where you knew they gave it everything they had… all would be good. I feel hopeless with Pope.

It is a little depressing. But, 2 years ago people swore up and down that we would have both Cal and Stoops for the foreseeable future with no hope of getting out of it. And while neither of those guys leaving happened the way we thought it would, the stars aligned and they are both gone. Things have a way of getting done sometimes in unexpected ways. If things get bad enough, Pope will be gone one way or another. Most likely he will get one more year at least though unless the bottom drops out on this one. I mean, they have had a lot of injuries, that's going to factor in with the AD. We never really got to see what this team could do at full strength.

Pitino’s first team that went 14-14 would beat the hell out of this team.
Pitino was awesome, but the 14-14 team wouldn't have beaten the Hell out of this team lol. They only went seven deep and five of those were freshmen and sophomores. Tallest player on the roster was 6'8". They lost to Kansas 150-95 lol. Lost 83-58 to Alabama. Lost to the University of Louisiana lol(no, not LSU). They were in fact similar to this team, if all these role players come back and they were to bring in some big stars in the future.

Simply delusional. That team would beat this non coached team worse than Vandy did.

Maybe you didn’t see Oweh just walk out of bounds with the ball and then he and your boy shrug it off?

This team doesn’t even try to win.

Anyone excusing this garbage is not a UK fan.

I was a UK fan before you were probably even born son. I watched all 28 games that year. They lost one by 55 freaking points dude. You don't have a clue as to what you are talking about

Before the 89-90 season, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution picked us to win 2 games all season. The Cats Pause preseason prediction was 6 or 7 wins. Cawood Ledford went way out on a limb and predicted eight wins (and said later he thought we'd be lucky to win four games but he wanted to be positive). They went 14-14, 10-8 in the SEC and undefeated at Rupp during the SEC. I've been to many UK games over the years and I don't think Rupp was ever louder or had that feeling that #6 LSU with Shaq, Chris Jackson and Stanley Roberts weren't going to leave with anything but a loss

Those guys gave us all they had and then some and became one of our most beloved teams as a result. The thing about UK fans and this program is a lot of our favorite teams aren't the teams that won it all. It's the Bombino's, the Unforgettables, the Runts, Tubby's 2003 team, 2010, 2014. It's whenever you knew you had guys who left it all on the court.

I felt some of that with last year's team. This year's group hasn't come anywhere close to being mentioned with those teams.
