Coach, you've struggled against zone allot this year, why is that?

Nothing wrong with wanting to get Rick to say it in his words. It's not the reporters job to fill in the blanks. Louisville could be bad against the zone because, they don't rebound, or they can't find the seems. Get him to say you can't shot from the outside.

And Ricks not an idiot, he knows what's up. He's just a bully who wants to talk down to local and inexperienced media. I hope that kid becomes a needle in his side forever.
Agree 10,000-percent. Good post. It isn't some college newspaper writer's job to ask Rick Pitino a question that challenges his basketball intellect. His goal is to get Pitino to give him a quote about Louisville struggling against the zone, which will serve as the theme of his game story.

If he didn't handle losses like a petulant child, this would have gone like it does with every other coach in America.

My petulant 13 year old knows the answer to that question. It is the acme of stupidity to expect a HOF coach to go into detail on anything that obvious. That wet behind the ears reporter had it coming 100%. I just can't understand the hatred that clouds UK fans perception of reality surrounding a guy who pulled our program from the ashes and restored it to the top,

Oh ********. Nobody is deserving of being treated like an *** unless the "wet behind the ears reporter" was treating Pitino like an ***.

Pitino is a prick. He does this every time he loses and the man should posses enough discipline to handle himself in a professional manner.

Pitino's always done stuff like this. There were times at UK when he was intolerable. I knew a guy a 101 guy once who can't stand Pitino to this day because of something he saw Pitino do at a postgame press conference in Pitino's first year at UK.

BUT I thought the question was leading in some ways. It seemed to be inherently critical--the kid said something like "why do you always struggle"--and I think Pitino read it as a dig at his coaching skill.

If Cal had done the same thing I wouldn't think much about it. These guys get ticked after losses. I wouldn't want to be interviewed after a Cats loss.

Pitino is a pricky slimeball. Period.

Yet Louisville fans (and pretty much all other fan bases) call Cal the slimeball over a player taking money from an agent 20 years ago (which Cal reported himself) and a guy that may or may not have taken his own SAT 10 years ago (and was cleared by the NCAA prior to playing for Cal).

Kudos to your 13 year old daughter. If only she could teach her parent a little bit about journalism and why a question is asked.

Again, he wasn't looking for an answer. He knows the answer. He was looking for a quote. You can't say "Rick Pitino didn't say this but he thinks the problem was that we can't shoot." The guy is writing a story on the game. He needs Rick to give him the quote he's looking for.

Hall of Fame coaches in every sport answer obvious questions gracefully even after a loss, yet it seems like we have these little Rick tantrums every couple weeks.

You hear seasoned journalists open a huge chunk of their questions with "talk a little bit about..." leading the coach to give them quotes for the angle they're taking. That's what this kid was doing, and a pissed off Pitino used it as a chance to bully him.

No one who is trying to do their job in a courteous, professional manner "has that coming 100%" Imagine you're in line at McDonald's. Guy ahead of you orders, worker says, "for here or to go?" Is it okay for the guy ordering to be like, "Well, idiot, my entire family is in here and my kids are at the table over there sitting down, so what do you think?" It's a formality. Answer the damn question like an adult with a sense of decency.

By the way, if this is such a stupid question and doesn't take an X's and O's genius to figure it out, you'd think Rick would, you know, stop getting beaten by the zone.

Pitino is smart enough to know the real and actual answer to that question leads directly to him. That is why he responded the way he did.

How many times in the last 6 years have you heard Cal say "that was my fault" or "I got outcoached"? How many times in the last 25 years have you heard Pitino utter those words?

His record against UNC (and Duke for that matter) is becoming very "Izzo-esque" in nature.

Well it is kind of a stupid question. How are you supposed to answer why you can't hit shots?

Without actually seeing the UofL-UNC game, the probable reason is that UofL wasn't getting penetration before they took a shot. If you go inside, then kick it back out for the three, your shooting percentage is generally much higher than if you come down and jack up a three without penetrating first.

That is why our defensive FG% has been so great most of the year. Teams can't penetrate our defense, so they just kind of give up and throw up a three, and that rarely works.

I doubt Pitino was in the mood to go through that explanation at the time.

Agree with the thought that it was not a bad question. Wish the kid would have followed up with something like. "Coach, I know you have struggled shooting the ball from the outside this year but aren't there other ways to attack a zone than by putting up 22-25 foot jump shots and hope they go in. As bad as you think my question was your answer was even worse. So now your telling me that all teams have to do is play zone against you and hope that your outside shots are not falling and they will be guaranteed a W because you as a coach have no other solution"

It was a dumb question, but when you hear "with the Louisville Cardinal", if you're a halfway decent human being you give the guy a decent answer. Instead he bullied the guy. If Rick Bozich asks that question and Rick responds the way he did I wouldn't have started this thread.

If C.R.A.P. had any ounce of decency in his entire body (which, of course, we all know he does not) he would have answered it thusly :

We have a tendency to force shots when they aren't falling. We started missing some of those perimeter shots in the UNC*** game and started to press a little bit more by forcing some bad shots, especially when we started falling behind, when UNC*** went on that late run. Instead of trying to counteract things by going inside a little bit more when the outside shots didn't fall, we may have panicked a little bit and didn't play smart. (would have been the honest and simple answer without having to show up the young fella' asking a simple question)

but instead, C.R.A.P. did what he (predictably) does, which was to run the young man up the flagpole and make himself look like the total ******* he really is. For that, I'm thankful. C.R.A.P. should take every opportunity to show himself out for the asshat he is in real life.

So, thanks, real man of genius, C.R.A.P. !
