What with the loss to Bob Morris and yesterday's commitment, maybe their minds will not be on baseball this weekend ... "Better than the Fab Five"
The Kentucky Wildcats, less than 15 hours after their elimination from the opening round of the NIT, received a commitment Wednesday from Julius Randle, the nation's No. 1 power forward and No. 3 overall recruit in the Class of 2013.</SPAN></SPAN>

With a pledge from Randle, John Calipari has secured the nation's No. 1 recruiting class for the fourth time in his five-year tenure in Lexington.</SPAN></SPAN>

Randle joins No. 1 point guard Andrew Harrison, No. 1 shooting guard Aaron Harrison, No. 1 center Dakari Johnson, No. 3 small forward James Young, No. 9 power forward Marcus Lee and three-star power forward Derek Willis in the Wildcats' 2013 class. Randle, Young and the Harrison twins are top-10 overall recruits, while Johnson and Lee are in the top 20.</SPAN></SPAN>

With rugged forward Julius Randle on board, the Wildcats now have all their bases covered and boast the best recruiting class ever on paper, writes Paul Biancardi. Blog </SPAN></SPAN>

The addition of Randle also steers Kentucky into unprecedented recruiting territory. The Wildcats have assembled, on paper, the No. 1 recruiting class of all time. This group of Wildcats has six top-20 recruits, four of whom are the No. 1 player at their respective position. Michigan's 1991 Fab Five class had been the standard-bearer for recruiting classes. UK's group is larger, deeper and more talented.</SPAN>

Two things...

1. They are on the short list for the #1 player Andrew Wiggins and #4 player overall as well. If they get Wiggins, they would have the #1 recruit in the name at every position plus the #6 and #18 players in the country. Unreal recruiting class.

2. How the hell do they make room for all these players? They are losing 2 seniors plus some think Noel may turn pro, but that only opens up 3 spots. I can't see any other players turning pro this year. Is Cal going to run off 3 or 4 five star players to make room for all these new guys?

Just my opinion, but Wiltjer was an experiment that didn't work - a square peg in a round hole in Calipari's system. I think he may be packing his bags as we speak - looking to go back out west. I feel bad for Harrow because he's a good kid who transferred in, but he's not cut out to be the PG at UK. I think he will be encouraged to look elsewhere as well. While I don't think Poythress will be asked to leave, I think his year in Lexington was such a nightmare that he will be looking to transfer. There's always the pro option with him, but he's kind of in the Rodney Hood mold - smart enough to know he needs a change of scenery but smart enough to know he's not ready for the NBA - yet. Depends on how UK handles his release, but Vandy seems like a good fit for him.

Noel is pretty much a lock to go pro and I think it would be best for everybody if Goodwin followed, but thats TBD. Cauley-Stein sucks, but he's pretty athletic for his size, so he may have some opportunities as well.

If they all leave, that's six spots and nobody would be asked to give up their scholarship - which is always an option when there is a numbers problem.

Cal's entire recruiting pitch is the number of his players that are cashing checks with many zeros in the NBA. He thrives on kids going pro.

The NBA player mill that Cal has created at Kentucky is unreal. He's now funneled so many productive players into the NBA that he's convinced teams that even a kid that barely earns playing time at UK could still easily be an NBA star. I still have no doubt in my mind that Cal is one of the dirtiest cheats in the history of the game, but even I have to admit that the system that he's created over the last decade is impressive. A slap in the face of college basketball maybe, but impressive nonetheless.

That was cool--"life on the other end." With that talent, it looks like if they cut any, another team will be waiting for them...the Heat.

You may have it backwards...

Cal is signing players that the NBA scouts already have their minds made up on, largely through connections with their future agents. The players are essentially being placed at UK.

I like how several of them were absolutely sure that Wiltjer is completely happy and definitely staying. I guess that's to be expected though since they believe that every player who comes through loves UK and loves being there.

He may love being there, but it may not be his choice to stay there. I don't see a role for him going forward.

That's unbelievable to have such a dominant recruiting class and have 5-star guys willing to be third off the bench. Saint Mary's and all their starting white guys better watch out. The NCAA is about to lay the hammer down! Already did you say? Nevermind.
