Plain and simple we are overrated

Everybody got their hopes up. We have some talent but in my opinion are lacking in some positions.

Pitching
We have several guys that are under achieving big time. And it's causing guys to pitch where they are not at their best.

Right now we have one guy who is a 3,4, 5 hole hitter on the whole team.

Pirtle has stepped up. I'm ready to see him in the 2 hole.

I'm sorry Rea is playing the wrong sport. He is Adam Dunn without the power.

Frazier, renfroe, above average

ct (more for defense), Pirtle, slaughter (more for his calling a game) and detz( utility guy) average sec guys at their position

Henderson- not a sec left fielder
Rea- way below a sec first basemen
Porter- reason he's a Walkon
Norris has been a huge disappointment.
Frost- Walkon
Ammo- fine for a backup catcher but not a sec starter.

I think Cohen also over thinks way to much. But right now we almost have to play perfect to win

Don't agree with it all, but I'm ready to see pirtle hit 2nd also. Bradford hits way too many popups. He's a fast guy that needs to hit grounders and line drives.

If you told me before the season

That Woodruff wouldn't be able to find the strike zone and Lindgren would have some type of injury the third week of SEC play thus making him a question mark, I'm pretty sure expectations would have been a lot lower from everybody.

I'm not blaming everything on them, but losing your potential ace can kill you in the SEC. It would kill anyone in the SEC.

Of course, that's why whenever I do a preview thing I always include the caveat- "barring injuries".

But like I said, it's not all on them- we have our All-Americans up there in the ninth and they pop up allowing Renfroe to get walked and then Detz had a bad at bat. Cohen/Butch deserve criticism for not pulling Pollo in the seventh. There was a thread on here about them being too loyal to some players- and I think sometimes they overestimate what some of our players can do, and as Clint Eastwood says- a man has to know his limitations. And I think Pollo was pushed to those limitations tonight and beyond a little bit. As far as Bracewell, we'll see if he pitches Sunday as a starter. If he does, it explains tonight a little bit better as far as the decision to go to Gentry. Fitts pitching tonight tells me he probably won't start Sunday. So- who is left? Will Cox?, Bracewell?, Woodruff? Evan Mitchell? I think it's time to start using John Marc Shelly a little bit more out of the bullpen in the future as well- I don't believe he is on the SEC roster this weekend, but I would put him on it next weekend.

So is this the weekend we hit rock bottom? Gotta think we're gonna have a tough time rebounding this weekend. It'll probably be a rain out tomorrow with nothing for the team to do but think about this game and the series losing streak. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we win a game in this series. We had our shot tonight and blew it again.

We still got Holder. 2.1 IP in 7 SEC Games. Its absurd. Since Holder is more of a K guy than Brace, I'm for bringing him in for situations like the 7th. We have got to use him more. I don't buy the "he's not good in non-close situations." That's ********. 3/4 of last season he wasn't the closer and did fine. He should be used like Caleb Reed, bring him in when pressure arises and let him be a horse. BB can close. That is, if Holder doesn't start*

I agree he needs to be used more. He's most likely not sharp lately from not being worked. I'm mad that we over used Ross Mitchell tues though. If Ross is available tonight, he'd have come in in the 7th and we win

Holder is not a pitcher that's going to be effective for more than 2 innings. He's a closer with two pitches, a screaming fastball and a breaking ball that can find the strike zone. His advantage is his fastball he keeps low and that sets up his breaking ball. He would be misused and ineffective if he is used in any other role other than a closer, plain and simple.
