play them in middle of the year like we used to and it's a stupid move.

I don't feel like doing the research but, as I recall, we always seemed to play USM coming off a tough SEC game - while they were trouncing a McNeese St. That was always my no 1 complaint.

Play them first or after opening with a 1AA and I'm ok with it.

This game has to be played 1st game of the year. Full attention, injuries should not be an issue, and etc.

Everyone knows the world is coming to an end in 2012 anyway. Smart move, Ninja.

I've never liked the idea of playing any team like that at their place the very first game of the year. See - La Tech. I honestly believe if we opened up against, say, Jacksonville State last year at home and then went to La Tech the 2nd game of the season, the outcome of that game would have been much different. That was my biggest gripe about that game, is that it was the first game of the season on the road at a place where no SEC team had ever gone. Their fans and team had months and months to get pumped up for the game, meanwhile our team's mindset was 'who the 17 is La Tech and where the 17 is Ruston?' Looking back, I'm glad it worked out the way it did since that game inevitably got us a new coach, but hopefully our AD learned a lesson from that game and won't make the same mistake twice.

We should never open the season on the road. As State fans, it is all too often that the first game is the only time that we are not below .500. It sucks to take that on campus excitement away for at least one week of the season. Last year opening at LA Tech was the worst decision ever because no one gave a crap by the time we played in Starkville.
