What did Ron Cherry keep saying about #44 when he was on the field? I couldn't make it out. Sounded like he was saying he was ineligible because of something to do with his uniform?

He was reporting as an eligible receiver. 44 for them is usually a DE.

Two things: 1) I thought only 50-79 were default ineligible based on number. I don't know why he was announcing 44 was eligible. Also, this isn't the NFL, I've never heard a college ref announce a player to be eligible before.

2) We had Ron Cherry? I honestly did not know that until now.

He was wearing what looked like a tank top w/ 44 on it over his regular jersey.

1) I thought it was strange, too, for the same reasons.

2) Yep. Givin' him the business.

You are correct about the numbering, but I was confused as to why he was announcing him an eligible receiver.. he was lined up as a tight end wearing 44 and not covered up by the outside receiver... so that was weird. I do buy into the DE theory, though... For whatever reason this year, college football is getting strict about numbering (Keemdeechee).
