Vann was the "tallest pygmy in the jungle" last season. Being the best receiver on last year's team doesn't exactly make him some sort of elite player. I don't think Vann realizes that he is not much more than a serviceable SEC receiver, not some standout talent. Reports of him half assing in practice suggest he thinks he is so good he doesn't have to work hard to keep a starting spot.
Vann may be an excellent opportunity for Beamer to show that, while he is a "player's coach", he can also dispense discipline when needed. A coach being liked is a good thing, a coach being respected is an absolutely necessary thing.
