I think I’m going to throw up in my mouth if I have to read this or hear this too many more times. And this applies not just to Lebby / MSU, but to every P4 program. This is simply no longer a thing.

First off, if players are playing hard, I’m certainly not giving Lebby or any coach credit for that. Not anymore. I’m giving our boosters credit, if anything. Everyone on the field is making a 90th-99th percentile mid-career family income in the United States, when you add up the value of all the benefits they are getting. And they are doing that as 18-22 year olds, playing a kid’s game.

Therefore, “playing their hearts out” is no longer something to be celebrated in FBS football….it’s the bare minimum expectation for all involved. Players who don’t should be fired immediately. Coaches that see players not giving effort or playing without discipline and continue playing them should also be fired, immediately.

That’s probably the most stark reality we all must face about what we used to love about college football - guys playing hard for their coach and school and nothing more - being dead and gone forever. But it is, in fact, reality.

Nobody watches the Panthers lose close to the Chiefs and says “boy, they really played their hearts out.”

This absolutely so true and well said, the players AND coaches need more accountability. The coach buyouts are ridiculous as is open ended player payments.

That phrase, along with “they are just young athletes, watch what you say” needs to end.

There is a pretty good racket for them going on now. They demanded to be paid because “we need to share the rewards” but somehow they are still immune to criticism? They are professionals now. They demanded money, they got money. In many instances more money than many state fans see late in their careers. With lots of money now comes accountability. There damn sure better not be any “they have just given up” attitudes later.

The head coach made more money for one game last night than 90 percent of state fans will ever see in a year.

But there is still this way of thinking that the fans, the ones cutting the actual checks, are the ones that should eat the **** sandwich. Everyone is getting their palms greased and wants met except for the people actually paying for it.

“We are better than last year!” Well no ****. We better be. There was a lot more money spent. It isn’t because last years team saw the light.. it’s because more money was spent and we are not playing 3/4ths of the year with a backup qb.
