Oweh is probably pissed he’s not the highest paid. He’s not even trying to perform out there. I watched him for 5 straight tonight and didn’t take my eyes off. He put forth no effort. He’s been paid to perform and he’s going to pull this?

No way I’d send him back out there. He’s destroying the team in all likelihood. I just see no way around it that he’s the problem. Oweh is nothing like he was when he first came here. Not close.
I hope he understands it's not just the program he's taking down, he's also undermining his own NBA stock. It's plummeting and I hate to tell him this, but pouting and playing with no heart, is not going to help his case.

Said the same thing tonight. Hope he understands the NBA won’t touch him with a 10 foot pole. I also wonder if his brother or someone near him has told him to tank it until they pay what they paid Aberdeen or whoever he’s pissed about getting more money.

His face during Pope's part of the presser is tell-all.

Oweh has no interest in UK and wanted out after last year. Took the money instead of not getting drafted because he knows he probably will never get drafted. Cashed out and is laughing his way to the bank as a man with more money than most of the Cats fans who support him

My point is he needs more rope before the eastern part of our state starts bitching. I'm sure there are others but hopefully the majority can give this guy some time. He can't control internal fights from our so called veteran "leaders". I'd kick Garrison off right now if I were him
Please let’s both come back to this thread in 2 months and see who the real b**** is.
Pope goes in the press conference after the game bout to cry. He’s got the heart of a captain that jumps ship when it’s sinking.

I don't want to speculate on what the internal issues are, but there are definitely internal issues.

Then why aren’t other teams just quitting?

UK players are not the only ones getting paid.

Boozer is supposedly one of the highest paid.

Why is he out there busting his ***?
Was just having this discussion with my wife, all the major teams are getting paid, we either just got a bunch of the don't give a **** players, or its poor coaching.

I saw the video, I'm not sure what to make of it. Could be nothing, but it could be something very disturbing.
Either way, he's a paid professional that needs this stage to get to the NBA, he has something big to lose here too, so if I was him, I would knock off the bs.

We don't compliment each other well and it compunds with no true healthy lead guard.
There is not a capable PG on the roster who's available.
I wish one time we could have more than one serviceable PG on the roster. Ab, chandler, oweh, Noah, and just about everyone else is much better off the ball. I would kill to trade BG and moreno both for Amari and give boot. no matter how aggravating Amari is for not dunking the damn ball he would eat any of our bigs
Moreno has been one of the best bright spots on this team! He's definitely not the problem hes better then BG by a mile!

How at a blue blood is this stuff allowed? We are supposedly the greatest tradition in college basketball.

Can we as a fan base do something to get a new AD? This isn’t a basketball problem. It is an athletic department problem as a whole. We need new people in charge.

Kentuckys is the complete opposite of the cool school at this point in time. We need a new brand all together.

Go adidas or something gotta switch it up.

paying players was always a bad idea. There’s a reason all of the coaches from back in the day and the NCAA didn’t let it happen. College basketball circles are flat out criminal scumbags. You give out of a bunch of money and chaos will come with it.

That system was always trash. And I don’t want to hear “it’s just not under the table now”. This game was NEVER like it is today. Cheating happened but low key and nothing to this extreme. If you did you were wiped out.

They were college kids who played the right way and were coached by men. They didn’t have money they had goals. This new version is trash. College football is trash too.
Agree
Said from the beginning of this nil crap that salaries would cause jealousy. It's the same in the real world work place

That's the problem, everyone worried about nba instead of winning games

KSR Rapid Reaction was strongly insuating some issues with Oweh. The huddle issue was Garrison yelling with teammates. So it seems those two guys may be a problem, at least
Give them an opportunity to correct their attitude or boot them. If they really have issues with each other, then the problem will never be corrected until one or both are gone

Oweh rolling eyes while Pope talked about trying to fix the locker room issues has me deeply concerned that this is gonna be tough to fix. If I’m Pope, I’m kicking dudes off the roster if needed. Show you mean what you say about building a culture. No matter which players it is. I think at least the guys left would respect you and you’d have something to build around

I would stick with Pope if he has some real conversations this weekend. "Take your check and leave, or join the team.". In business, 90% of problems come from 10% of people. Brandon or Otega, make them walk

Almost got into one tonight during a TO.. Pope had to step in and break it up..
One responsibility of a college head basketball coach is to avoid recruiting cancers.

Another head coach responsibility is once one or more cancerous players find their way into the locker room, remove them from the squad as quickly as possible before they destroy the team. Ignoring it and thinking it will work itself out over time just makes things worse. This component of being head coach requires leadership/guts - particularly if the cancer is a starter - but it’s part of the job description. Do all of your job Mark Pope.

The best early Christmas present Mark Pope could receive at this point is an hour-long telephone/zoom call with his old coach/mentor R. Pitino to shoot the breeze about family, life, X’s and O’s and making tough decisions?

Something isn’t right with Oweh. He hasn’t tried this entire season so far. Something is really off. He was a dawg last year. What’s happened? I never thought he was an all American I thought he was exactly what he showed me last year. He never had the best talent he had heart.

Must of used all of their fight during the timeout, because they showed zero fight in the game.
They like to fight before games and the in the huddle. But I bet they won’t miss a second of rushing to that dealership and buying a car. Won’t mess that up. Won’t mess up buying mama a house with money they’ve never earned. Won’t mess that up. Taking a bunch of kids who’ve never done anything but rely on height in their lives, the fact that they’re taller than everybody, and throwing tons of money at them like they’re somebody special oh my, what could go wrong. Gonzo told me nothing would change that these are mistreated children. He told me the game would only get better if we just paid them out. Where is he?

Typical thinking of people like him. Create victimhood, hold no one accountable except the people who are already held accountable, make excuses for bad behavior, and expect things to go well. He won’t be back to explain how absolutely pitiful his thinking was.

Anyone miss The rules of the NCAA now? Anyone miss the structure yet?

Why is that so hard to believe? Heck, they could lose chemistry during summer practices. Why are you thinking it is impossible at this juncture?
Not impossible, just very unlikely. It’s also always fans default reaction when they hear something happened in the locker room.

I’m now fully convinced that’s what happened. This team has zero chemistry and Pope is too Mormon to know how to connect with players in a secular program/school.
It sure feels like it for real. I don’t know if he has the attitude needed to correct a serious issue like this. He’s a great leader when things flow well but he can’t get thru to ******** and kids who are fighting. I think it’s why we have led for so many recruits only to see them go elsewhere because he just doesn’t connect with them. Just speculation, but it appears he has lost control of this team already.

My son goes to eku but hangs alot at uk with friends that go there and this was what was floating around campus after the UL game……oweh & Williams. But if players are after each other during the game, that’s a completely different animal and an absolute terrible look for the program.
Makes sense why Williams has look lost and not gotten minutes when he has played well recently. Also Oweh looks like a different player. Something isn’t right mentally and physically with him.

He surely realizes that he doesn't have any NBA stock. He will never play in that league!

It's not "unlikely", in fact, it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. This is the main concern when you put a new team together and massive amounts of money are involved.
I have no idea why you're struggling with this, but nobody should he doubting there is a massive locker room problem.
