Mississippi has to play Vandy at home for the 2nd year in a row next year, so the SEC can get to a schedule where all the permanent opposite division games are at the West team in odd years and at the East team in even years. So I suspect they may be going to Tuscaloosa next year. I'd LOVE to see us play at either Bama or LSU again next year though so we break the cycle of having our 3 biggest games (UM, Bama, LSU) either all at home or all on the road.
I hope this is true. Although obviously early, I was beginning to wonder how hard next year's schedule would be. Having A&M at home would certainly help. I also wouldn't mind going to KY for the 3rd year in a row if it meant we could have Auburn or Ark at home.

We came out pretty good with it this year. We got to go to Kentucky 2 years in a row (shouldn't matter where we play them) and we got to play Tennessee at home instead of South Carolina on the road (huge win for us). People just don't notice it when the SEC does us right.
Why does everyone keep calling LSU one of our three biggest games instead of Auburn? Most of our fans hate Auburn more than anyone other than OM at this point. They certainly don't like us either. They're more on our level than LSU is. We haven't beaten LSU in 14 years, and it's rarely even close, while we regularly play tight games with Auburn. What am I missing?
Having said that, I agree with the general point because playing at Bama again next year would split our four biggest games into two pairs, instead of three and one like it is now. Although, I could see us developing a good rivalry with A&M pretty quickly.
I think this sucks for season ticket holders...
For those people who are season ticket holders are going to be pissed!! I have to agree with Todd 4 State, fans don't want to see the same exact teams from this season and next season and probably the seaon after that for all the home games. This may hurt ticket sales, because fans do want to see State play LSU, Bama, and Ole Miss at home.

We are simply talking about playing 1 team at home twice and 1 team on the road twice in order to rebalance the schedule for the divisions. We will play 2 of the 3 you mentioned at home again next season.
Makes even better sense, given that as currently configured, A&M comes to Mississippi twice one year and not at all the next.

I'm a season ticket holder and it doesn't leave me "pissed!!" Every other season ticket holder I've talked to thus far also has no problem with it.
Also, if you think it might happen again in 2014, then you obviously don't understand the point of it in the first place.

Im going to buy season tickets no matter what, but Im sick of going to Bama in back to back years.... Like another poster pointed out, we've done this several times... Why cant Bama come to our house in back to back years??

FWIW, I would love to have UM and MSU on the road every year and get UT/AU/LSU at home more often... I think Bama got to go to LSU on consecutive years in the late 80s for some reason...

To me, LSU is a bigger rival because there are more LSU fans in Mississippi than Auburn fans. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer to it. LSU, Bama, Auburn, and Arkansas are all really close as far as my level of dislike. You ask someone in Meridian who they want to beat worse between Bama, LSU, and Auburn, they'll probably say Bama. You ask someone on the coast the same question, they'll probably say LSU. And then there are people like you that hate Auburn because they are a bunch of lying cheating toolsheds.

Since when is MSU/Kentucky a rivalry? I certainly don't consider UK a rival. In my mind, our rivals are Alabama and the Bears (both within our divisions, admittedly). And SC/A&M? Are rivalries being dictated?
As it is though, we have one fantastic home schedule with the likes of LSU, Alabama, and the Bears, then the next year a lousy schedule with Arkansas our best opponent. Last year, Alabama and LSU were ranked 1 and 2 when we played them, as I recall. That makes for an exciting game even if we lose. I'll buy season tickets regardless, but it would be nice to even out the competition each year.
I don't like this. If there was ever a time we might could make some serious noise in the West, i think it is next year. To have a chance of winning the west, you are basically going to have to beat bama. Having them at home would help that proposition immensely.

While that is true, that is primarily MSU's own fault. The SEC let all the schools set their own schedules until sometime in the 70s. Schools were supposed to play at least 6 conference games, but they were basically on their own to figure out whom to play, as well as when and where. The conference would only step in if there was a major dispute.
The lopsided nature of the game locations is all due to MSU. Back in the 40s and 50s, State would set its schedule based in part on the cotton crop. If it was a good year for cotton, then they could have more home games because more people could afford to buy tickets. MSU was Alabama's homecoming opponent for 10 consecutive years in the late 40s and 50s, and that certainly had nothing to do with the SEC office. Plus, MSU played Alabama in Jackson a lot, which was obviously MSU's own choice.
The conference took over scheduling in the 70s. MSU played @ Alabama in '78 and '79, which I think had something to do with the balancing the home-away schedule, which was difficult when you had 5 permanent opponents and 1 rotating opponent. Then we played @ Alabama again 10 years ago when we switched from 2 permanent cross-division rivals to just one.
But, the MSU-Bama schedule was unaffected when the conference went from 6 games to 7, and then from 7 games to 8, so we really have only gotten screwed with the Alabama scheduling twice.
Didn't we play @Bama in both 2001 and 2002 when the SEC went from 2 to 1 permanent interdivisional rival?
