Nothing like watching a game in sleet only to lose it at the end and realize you're cold, wet, and sober.

Most exciting win (that I was at) - Florida 2000. And I knew before the game started that we'd be out on the field afterward.

It has to be the worst. I know there were some let down games before hand, and my history only goes back to '87 (that I can remember). But geez, Croom had alot of people thinking that we MIGHT be turning the corner, had an easIER schedule, senior laden team, etc. etc. etc. AND, it was the first game of the year, and of course we're all looking forward to it.

In hindsight, I'm glad it happened, because I think that game was the beginning of the end for Croominator. But at the time, with the whole season to go, and hopes dashed, I can't think of a worse week of football for me. Losing the SEC Ch'ip? No way, ****, at least we got there. It sucked, but the team was good. Ole Miss '97, you could make a case for that. '92 and '00 as well. The beatdowns of '03 and '08 were bad, but it's almost like they were necessary.

The best? '80 Alabama will always take that honor. The rest are fighting for second place.

Just another hole in the Slytanic, but coming off a 8 win season, and then being a SEC school going to play in the glorified HS stadium, and losing....because your coach is an idiot.

and afterwards, he REALLY thinks they are above Mississippi State. That feeling is effing terrible.

Not to mention we are cruising 14-3 before Croominator benches Carroll for Lee, who SLIDES (because he's that important) short of the first down, causing us to punt to them (of course, we always sucked at ST under walrus) and they run it back and punch it in the endzone to get momentum.

Then we can do nothing against a WAC school the rest of the night. Worst start to football season EVAR.

of being tired of losing, not wanting to go through the process again (little did I know, I was brainwashed into thinking it took 10 years to build a program), and also thinking how awesome it would be for MSU to have a successful black coach.

We all knew deep down he was going to suck forever after Maine. Some of us just chose to ignore it.

Bama 1991 - We lost 13-7 after having the ball on the 3 yard line. Got an offsides penalty and the Bama D ripped us a new one after that.
Bama 1994 - We were up in the 4th and they came back to win it.
Ole Miss 2007 - Damn you Peterson and Patridge!
Bama / Arkansas 1999 - So close.....so close....
South Carolina 2000 - 4th String QB completes a miracle pass to win the game.
LSU 2000 - We let them back into the game and they beat us in OT.
Arkansas 2000 - Worst game I've ever been to in my whole life. We lost to an inferior Arkansas team on a field goal in OT, cost us a trip to Atlanta.
LSU, Houston, Ga Tech 2009 - Too. Many. Turnovers.

*Edit - Maine and La. Tech weren't heartbreakers for me....they just pissed me off.

*Edit2 - Most exciting wins?
Ole Miss - 1991
Florida - 1992
Bama - 1996
All of 1999
Florida and Auburn - 2000
Auburn / Bama / Ole Miss - 2007
Ole Miss - 2009.

is when I bailed on Croom. It was obvious he was never going to be worth a crap after that. It's natural for most people to hold out hope that things will get better, but that's when it helps to be Captain Pessimism (my wife's name for me) in situations like that.

Even after Crooms's arse-extracted 2007 miracle I had little hope for that season. Just about every loss to inferior teams was met with both anger towards and mocking laughter at Crooms.

For worst loss, I really can't decide between '09 LSU or '97 Ole Miss. Also, the first game I have a memory of was the game in Oxford in '92 when we couldn't punch it in. That probably would be just as bad as the other two, but I was too young to care as much as I later would.

For most exciting win, I once again can't pick just one. Arkansas in '98, Ole Miss in '99, and Florida in '00 were all awesome. Honorable mention to Bama '07.

..anybody who remembers that monumental catastrophe also remembers a prolonged depression so intense, you seriously considered psychiatric counselling up to, & past, Christmas.

The best win(s) were when Jackie started to beat Alabama's *** on a semi-consistent basis. I must tip my hat to the Croominator also, because even he got in a ***** slap against Bama.

As a MSU fan, there is no feeling like beating Alabama in football.

In terms of "season's over already" I'm going with 2001 Troy, 2003 Oregon, 2004 Maine and 2008 LaTech.
For late season heartbreak, I'll take 1992's Bama and Ole Miss games (back to back. ouch.) and the 2000 Arkansas game.
For sheer "I can't believe we lost to those ********," there's the 95 and 96 losses to freaking La-Monroe and Tech.
There's also the WTF? factor in our 98 season, since we lost to very mediocre LSU and Okie St. teams. That's more disappointing than losing in the championship game to the eventual national champ.
The '97 Egg Bowl gets special consideration for the heartbreak and because it's the only time I've ever gotten into a fight after a football game.

And last year's LSU game gets the award for "yelling so loud I one-upped a closed door and a running vacuum cleaner."
"What in the hell is going on in here? Are you alright? (looks at the TV, assesses the situation). Let me re-phrase that. Are you injured?"

For wins: It's '96 Bama, 98 Arkansas, 99 Egg Bowl, 2000 Florida and 07 Bama.

I didn't go to it, nor was I a football fan then- and I think I was about six when it happened. But I feel like I experienced it to a degree because so many people still talk about it.

The worst one that I ever experienced was the Egg Bowl in 1997. The worst part was you could see it coming starting with the ill fated field goal attempt that failed giving them good field position, Joe Lee Dunn playing prevent defense to prevent us from winning- which was running through my head during the entire drive, and then watching those punks celebrate. I wanted to tear something up. If someone had told me that day though, that we would win the next two including a SEC West Championship in Oxford and then the 1999 Egg Bowl which was the total opposite of the 1997 Egg Bowl, I probably would have made that trade.

The most exciting for me was winning the Egg Bowl in 1999. That game was epic because you had our #1 defense vs Deuce, Joe Gunn, and Ole Miss's offense. I had heard a lot of Ole Miss fans talk about how we were a fluke, but we were just a good team that truly did have a lot of heart and didn't quit.

3. 1997 Egg Bowl- who picks up 4th and 28?

best-

1. 1980- State 6 Bama 3
2. 1999 Egg Bowl- Thanks Cutt
3. 1998 Alabama??- year JJ ran over them in Tuscaloosa- their fans were just sick
4. 2009 Egg Bowl- turning point for the future of our program

I ws thinking roughly from 1996 to last season vs. Bama. As you can see,our winsvs. Bama since Jackie's big 1996 win vs. Bama is semi-consistent at best.

I don't know what you mean by "I guess you choose not to go?"...but if you mean to a MSU football game, I will always make a concerted effort toavoid you (& your coach34 cabal)even if I am even in Oktibbeha county, much less at a MSU footballl game in Starkville.

I barely remember most of the Jackie era. I would have to pick Ole Miss 1999 since I won some money of that game, and the Snow Bowl as the best one. As lows I would pick looking up the Maine score and seeing it on espn, then LSU last year. The most heartbreaking loss in school history is the 1998 game against Tennessee but I was only ten at the time and didn't get the significance of the game when I watched it.

So when we did lose it at the end, it wasn't as heartbreaking because we were expecting it. If we'd had a healthy JJ Johnson, I'd have been more optimistic, and therefore more heartbroken when we did lose. I'll still have to go with the 83(?) Egg Bowl when the wind blew back the winning field goal.

I was extremely happyjust to bethere.

It wasn't a game I expected to win.

We didn't deserve to win considering how terrible our offense was that day. Games like last year's LSU game where we should have had it bother me more and longer than a game where we lost to a team that was better than us.

I was in the student section and, before the inevitable happened, I had allowed myself to believe we were going to win. Eric Moulds had made a touchdown catch for the ages, our defense had played a great game, things seemed to be all in our favor. Sort of like the saying, "It's not the despair that kills you, it's the hope." In big games since then, I've always expected to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

All that changed when KP returned that punt, at least in my eyes. When KP hit the sideline, it went from "just happy to be here" to "holy shat we can win the SECCG."

We completely dominated that game and it would have been our first win over LSU in over a decade. Took me a solid week to get over the loss. Most depressed I've ever been at a game was when the scoreboard read Tulane 32, MSU 7 in the third quarter in 2006. That was truly the rock bottom of the Croom error. Greatest win (not a lot to choose from since I've only been a State fan since 2001) would probably be last year's Egg Bowl or Bama 2007. Most surprising win would definately be Florida 2004. I will never understand how we won that game considering we had lost to Maine and lost to UAB by two touchdowns the week before.

Too bad I <17ing> left the stadium when T Grindle fumbled the ball at around midfield late in the 3rd quarter.

our win over Arkansas to win the Western Division in in football. The reason is because every argument you ever have with a person from our in state rival ends with "go to Atlanta once and then come talk to me."

After Isaac scored, I was like, "yeah, great it's early", then Bama ties it up, and then Lamont Woodberry made that unbelievable catch from Taite who was throwing it God knows where- kind of like Moulds in 1994, but I still didn't get my hopes up. Bama scored, but missed the extra point, which I figured would set up the miracle game winning FG, except that Bama scored, and then Reggie Kelly juked some guy out of his shoes and Hazelwood kicked the go ahead FG.

After I that, I figured Bama would rip out hearts out. And sure enough, they cross the 50, but then all of a sudden Paul Lacoste got a sack, and it was 4th and long and it knocked them out of long FG range. So, Bama goes for it, and I'm thinking that they are going to convert and get in easy FG range to rip our hearts out, but then.....WE STOPPED THEM! WE JUST BEAT BAMA! I was stunned. I couldn't believe it was real. I was waiting on some phantom pass interference or personal foul to bail Bama out and put the ball first and goal on the one inch line, and it didn't happen. Just awesome!

Easy. LSU last year is number 1 with me. I know there have been many but 6" and a midget is all that kept us from going bowling in Mullen's first year. We were 6" short (on the field and in the backfield) of a MAJOR turnaround from the steaming pile of crap we've seen for this entire decade. Yes, that includes the '07 season when a bowl fell into our laps thanks to two lucky pick 6's and a bonehead call by coach O on 4th down. None of Croom's failures even come close becuase I never expected anything out him. LT said that when we hire our new coach, "People are going to say 'How did they get that guy?'". Instead, most of us said "Who is that guy?". If you didn'trealize at that very momentthat we self-imposed our own probation at that point, I have some ocean front property free of illegal aliens in Arizona I'll unload on you pretty cheap.

Most exciting win is a tie for me. The 6-3 Bama game and CJ is STILL open. Damn! How many years has he been open now?
