Playoff Question on Saturday Questions

I have always been interested as to why the State Playoff games after round 1 seem to switch to Saturdays and in most of those cases Saturday evening? With college football really hitting its stride it would seem to be better to keep on Friday nights as long as the travel between the schools is reasonable.

If it is because of the unpredictable weather this time of year I understand but then why play Saturday night? Does anyone know if there is some IHSA rules as to why this is the case or does the home school decide.

It starts with the first round. Once two teams can’t decide to play on Friday night (travel, field resources etc.), games start to be played on Saturday.
So in first round, for argument’s sake, let’s say half play on Friday night and half play on Saturday, why would the one team that played Saturday in the first round agree to play on Friday night and give up a day in prep and recovery. As the rounds go on, most teams have played the Saturday before, making Saturday the usual day for state playoff games.

i believe home school decides in most cases
Home school puts a preferred time out there but visiting team must agree to it. If they can’t come to a resolution by themselves, the IHSA arbitrates and sets the time and day.

This makes total sense about one team the previous week playing Friday the other Saturday. now about those late kickoff times on a Saturday night? that one still baffles me

Most HS play most of their games under the lights so home teams may offer it as an option they feel comfortable with. If the visiting coach feels likewise and a night start doesn’t mess up their bus/carrier/travel system, they’ll agree to it.

Many schools try to play as close to the time they would play the championship, if they are fortunate enough to make it to Champaign. Cannot start a Saturday game prior to noon or 1 p.m., so that's typically the earliest time. Many 7A and 8A games will be in the 3-4 or 6-7 range especially in quarters and beyond.

Some schools have other activities that day.

We played at Vernpn Hills a few years back at 4pm. The school had a huge swim meet that morning, and the Fall play was that night.

4pm was the only time we could be squeezed in at Rust-o-leum Field (seriously)

ya and one year we had a team that had 4kids have to take the sat tests. and the coaches did not care. they scheduled it anyway. big blowout on here between the parents of the teams.. ahaha. was a good week.
but, I like the Friday night games period. stop giving out so many choices. when you give people choices they cannot deal with it and then we get the ihsa deciding
