In the end how we are playing going into the tournament is more important.

2011 - 4 seed
2014 - 8 seed

We did pretty well those years

Seeding this year will be of less importance than any year I can remember. And I'm old...'ish.

Sure anything can happen but usually the better the seed the better chance. Best to avoid the 5 seed it seems the 12 seeds win more often than the 5s.

2014 was 1 shot away from being knocked off in the 2nd round by Wichita State at the buzzer.

2011 was 1 shot away from losing to Ohio State in the sweet 16 at the buzzer.

Our guard play is crazy good...really hard to get knocked out quickly with great guard play

Of course. We almost lost in the first round to Princeton is 2011.

But your always gonna have close games in the tournament. Obviously u want the best seed u can possibly get for an easier road, but if this team gets a 4 seed but is playing like a 1, i'll take my chances

I agree, but it would be great to get a 3-5 seed. At some point the path just becomes too tough. You are right, we could get lucky and have some of the higher seeds in our region drop out early.

You definitely want to be a 1 or 2 if at all possible. They nearly always get breathers in round 1.

Of course seeds matter - they matter a lot. It's so much easier statistically coming out of a 1 seed slot. The two big dividing lines are (1) 1 vs 2; and (2) 3 vs 4. We're not going to be a #1. But... our goal should be to get at least a 3. From there, our path is 14>6>2. That's a lot better than even a 4 seed, which is 13>5>1. And maybe the 1 gets knocked off by game 4.

In short, I want off the 4-5 line.

The reason why Texas is a 5 seed with 9 losses is because they are in the Big 12. If we lose 9 games we will be a 7-9 seed. We played and lost to awful teams, and we haven't beaten anyone other then South Car.

But like I said it's all about matchups. Not where we are seeded.

We win out and this season keeps playing like it has and we are guaranteed a #2 seed and potentially, depending on who loses, maybe a #1.

The #1 is not probable, but we have another couple of Saturdays that we win and 5-6 ahead of us lose, then tournament upsets and it could happen

I agree that we have some bad losses but we've beaten goods teams other than South Carolina. We have wins over Duke (RPI 17), So. Car. 27, Louisville 30, Florida 31 and Bama 37. UK is 5-1 vs. top 50. Compared to Texas with 9 losses that is 5-6 vs top 50. Despite the bad losses that we do have, I think our resume is better than Texas.

Texas is like us and are playing their best bb right now...I think UK can get a 3 seed if we finish well..Maybe drop 1 more game

I think that dominant road win over South Carolina will hold a lot of water come selection Sunday. The Texas a 5-seed thing is an example of a coach getting much respect from the guy making the bracket. I'm not so sure they're going to be a 5-seed unless they continue getting big wins, in which case it will take care of itself.

Of course, I think you can say the same thing for UK. The Cats could be anywhere from as high as a 2-seed to as low as a 6-seed. It just depends on how things go from here, out. 3 weeks ago, I probably would have said that the Cats could end up anywhere from as high as a 4 or 5 seed to as low as a 8 or 9 seed. So, we've definitely moved up a notch.

Bottom line, as always, is keep winning and there will be no worries. If the Cats win out, including tough road games at TxA&M, Vandy, and Florida and an SEC-Tournament Title, I think they're a 2-seed. If they only have one slip-up on the road but still win the SEC-T, they may be looking at a 3. Who knows? Just win, baby!

Yep. Little difference between the ones and the fours. The difference will be in the sixteens and thirteens they are playing.

True, the Big 12 has the # 1 conference RPI and that will carry some weight on selection Sunday. SEC is 6th in the conference RPI. But how well did that help the Big 12 last year?. It's like you said, matchups more than seeding. If an 8/9 seed matches up well with a # 1 seed it could be bye bye for the top seed in the second round. We saw that one year with Stanford who had an underachieving but dangerous UNC team as their 8/9 in 2000 and Stanford was upset. Actually that same year Duke had a very young but very talented Kansas team as their 8 seed and had to endure a grueling second round game with the Jayhawks but was able to advance.
