It means your betting on the team to win outright, no spread involved.

the money line is betting on a team straight up

Let's say State is +14 versus Bama this weekend. If you bet on State and the money line and State beat alabama outright, then the bet would pay much more than $100 (let's say 2.5:1) so the bet would pay out $250 on a $100 bet
