What is done is done and it will never change. However, every time I see USM play on TV, I cant help but think what a waste of resources it is to have three large universities in the poorest state in the nation. Even if you only had two, how much better would Mississippi State be if it was located in Hattiesburg. I say alot better off.........closer and easier drive to Jackson, closer to the more populated coast, closer to New Orleans. It seems most of the talent comes out of S. Mississippi. Anyway.....what a waste.

being an easier drive from Jackson simply because of all of those dang stoplights in every little podunk town from Jackson to Hattiesburg.

At least 25 is a four-laned straight shot from Jackson after you get past Flowood except for the one four way stop in Louisville.

It takes me about two hours to get to both Starkville and Hattiesburg from where I live.

I used to make it a couple of times a week... It is the most annoying hour and a half drive in the world..

Have you ever lived in another state? If not, at least do a little research.

Mississippi practically leads the nation in everything, especially overhead, per capita. More legislators per capita. More school districts per capita. More colleges per capita. We've got so much damn government and overhead per capita.

Some because we're still paying the price of segregationist policies. This explains the black colleges, at least most of them.

Other because we see other states with intra-state geographical collegiate allocations and expect we can do the same. Except we don't realize our neighboring states have twice as many people as us. Go a little farther and Texas has 8 times as many people as us.

Yet our state has special legislative sessions every damn year. Texas never does this, and also only meets every other year instead of every year.

****. Half our state's problem is a refusal to understand how small we are. We need to stop running the damn place like we're just one of the Jones because we're not. That's not to say we can't have A great college in Mississippi. But we sure as hell can't have 8 of them. Or 3. Or 2.

This post has been brought to you by 1800 Tequila. And 40 years of noticing what's 17ed up about our state.

Quit blaming USM for your problems. Flabloser has it right. Segregationist policies setup all of the schools that MS can't afford. And because those schools has protective alumni now, they're not EVER going away. Besides, kids want choice.

If it makes you feel better, blame Ole Miss for having the only law school, thus producing most of Mississippi's politicians. Creat a couple more law schools to compete with it and maybe the level of politician will improve, but I am a cynic.
