IMO their era is over. More so the traditional SEC schools. The Big10 schools just have more money and larger student bases. I believe Michigan has 2x the endowment as UK, Alabama and Georgia combined. The south east just doesnt have the financial base. Now that all schools can pay players (and not just Alabama), the tides have shifted. Cowherd summed it up perfectly:
He's just a USC/LA groupie and knows where his bread is buttered. If they were in the acc he'd be saying the same thing relative to Miami. If he's lucky enough to get something right, 2x a day, he's the proverbial broken clock.
The SEC DID screw themselves over. I (and others) have said this for years. Glad cowerd poked his head out of that LA tortoise-shell to consider the rest of the country. We're all way ahead of ya, Colon.
It's going to get worse for the SEC, no question. When the rest couldn't play good enough to compete, they cheated and/or changed/obliterated the rules of the game. Shocking to hear.
It's clear the ncaa not only wanted it to be this way, but we may one day find out that they steered it this way instead of working with players to iron it out in advance, as everyone was calling for them to do. In any other legitimate league they'd have ironed out a CBA with players IMMEDIATELY. Instead they threw the entire sport and sports system under the bus to see what they could squeeze out of it.
That allowed Michigan to steal a title in the chaos and let them give back stolen hardware to cheaters who they protected while they were cheating. It's a question now only of how corrupt an org it has been
