The newly changed headline reads:

New Politico headline eliminates "fabrication" allegation: "Exclusive: Carson claimed West Point 'scholarship' but never applied"

West Point does that a lot. They are like a college basketball coach visiting AAU events offering 9th and 10th graders. :flush:

Here's a fact. West Point doesn't offer scholarship to anyone. Period.

He was told with his grades and ROTC standing he would get in by recruiters for West Point who attended the dinner with Westmoreland. He was 17 at the time. He was further told it would be at no cost. By the way, West Point uses the term "scholarship". Check out their marketing materials.

There was lying involved, but it was Politico's original headline.

Technically you are correct, in the real world you are wrong. . If West Point wants someone, they will do whatever to get their person. My nephew WAS recruited to play football at West Point and he was aided every step of the process to end up there. He ended up at West Point. It is also reasonable to assume that if a person of Westmorelands stature encouraged Carson to apply and West Point officials, told him they could help him get an appointment it was indeed tantamount to a "scholarship" offer.

Politico did the damage they intended to do. It was never about reporting the truth in regards to Carson. It was a political hit job and it had its intended effect.
