I vote Cal, and not simply because it's "way more games". I know football is more physical and more demanding, but I look at it this way: assuming no injury to either player over their career, Favre's would be more impressive simply because playing "healthy" in the NFL is still banged up and hard on the body. However, assuming the same, relatively minor injury to both players - let's say a muscle strain in their throwing shoulder - then Cal's is more impressive because most likely he would have less than 24 hours to recover and be back in the lineup. Most MLB players would opt out for a day or two "just to be sure", but Cal never did. And thus, 2632 > 297.

If a baseball player has a strain in the shoulder, they may have to make 3 or 4 throws in a game. QB bas a shoulder strain they still have to throw it anywere from 20 - 30 times. Plus they are getting hit and banged up. I played both infield and QB. I played baseball in college and had a bum shoulder the last 2 years of my career. I could take it easy on my shoulder every chance I got in baseball. Even the plays you have to throw a baseball you don't really have to turn it loose. It's rare a baseball player actuall lets go of one across the infield. Just look at the countless times infielders throw lollypops across the infield. That's based solely on arm injuries so take it for what it's worth. However you can also pick and choose when you actuall have to run hard in a baseball game as well.

people get broken in the NFL, especially at quarterback. It's impressive to still be able to walk after playing that many NFL games, much less playing them consecutively.

  • Painkiler addiction
  • Death of father
  • Wife being diagnosed with breast cancer
  • Two team changes
That's not even accounting for the severity of the injuries he played with.

but he is one tough SOB. He also has a desire to play the game b/c he loves it and I respect the hell out of that. Same thing about MJ. I think retiring when you are on top just to go out on top is BS. If you love it, play it until you simply can't anymore.

In the game after the death of his father, he went out and threw for 399 I think. It was highly impressive.

964 games in the NHL.

If Chuck Norris plays pro sports, he would be in the NHL. The other sports are for #*(#*&

</p>270consecutive games on the defensive line is, by far, the most impressive.

Good call with the Doug Jarvis, over 11 straight seasons played in Hockey. that is badass too.

I'll split my abstention amongst those two

He may not have gotten a perfect QB rating, but it was one of the absolute best games by a QB I have ever seen.

OL for so many years I have tosay Walter Payton as honorable mention given the beatings he took and still played for so many years when the Bears refused to throw the ball and ran it 40-50 times

in baseball, they'll hold you out of the lineup for even a relatively minor injury, while it takes a much more substantial injury to get held out in football. So Ripken had to go all those years without even getting a minor injury.

That's 10 times more games per season in MLB.

I know there is wear and tear from playing that many games, but NFL teams play 1 game for every 10 played in MLB each year. That means Favre played the equivalent of 2970 straight baseball games if you extrapolate it out by percentage of the season.

I really don't think the wear and tear of 10 baseball games compares to the dangers associated with playing 1 football game at QB, or at the very least, it's comparable.

297 wins out for me as most impressive.

Rod Brind'Amour -

Played for my Flyers and later the Carolina Hurricanes, and during his stint with Philadelphia he was considered one of the league's
'ironmen', with a consecutive games streak of 484 played, a Flyers
franchise record.

484 games played, take into account it's an 82 game season plus playoff games, and it's 17ing hockey, man.
