I liked that he refused to call them Ole Miss and referred to them as Mississippi or the University of Mississippi. They took it as a slap in the face but in actuality both are correct. after all it's not Ole Alabama or Ole Oregon-its simply Alabama or Oregon.

<17> The rebels. Anything we can do to disrespect them or piss them off is OK by me.

Mainly because it's appropriate and it irks some OM fans. But "Ole Miss" is their official nickname and it's easier to type and say, so I use it a lot.

I think "+$%!" is kind of childish.

it is pissing them off. Reading NAFOOM, for some, it's like Mullen banged their mama.

Mississippi or UMiss.

They hate it.

I still hold to my theory that's what really confused the nation into thinking we are one in the same though.

He alluded to the fact that Sherrill called them "Mississippi". Mullen says they're just another school and that WE are Mississippi's university - the place students and student athletes should want to go to represent their state.

He talked at length about becoming champions using only talent from Mississippi. Now don't go all six-pack on him for that - we all know we won't ignore out of state players. You get what he's saying.

I honestly don't care what he calls us. I do think it's pretty interesting that we were mentioned 7 times last night whether he called us "$#++%%%#*@@++%@*#%%", "devil worshippers", or "Literally a Cocksuckers". What did we have to do with an MSU pep rally? That's the part where I think he goes overboard.

He understands a rivalry, how to get his fans fired up and get under the skin of the rival fans (as shown by your post).

Dont think Woody ever referred to Michigan as anything but "$!+@%@*%#!+$*%$#@#@" when he was head coach at Ohio State. It is lame, but I like the fact that Mullen wants to stir the pot. He gets that from Urban Meyer. I hope we see the UMiss logo in the "Templeton Troughs" at DWS like Urban did with the BYU logo when he was at Utah. That would be classic.

Considering the source is the Clarion-Ledger, it could have actually been once or twenty.

The article states it, and the article was linked on a site I read. The fact that the paper chose to print the number of times shows that they obviously also thought it was weird that it kept coming up at an MSU rally.

It's not that he's stirring the pot with the name. That's fine, and I think that's part of the spirit of a rivalry. Nutt pretty consistently refers to Arkansas as "that other school" when asked about his previous seasons. However, he doesn't bring them up 7 times at an Ole Miss rally, nor does he bring up MSU that often. That's what the thread on Nafoom is about, not the name, but how often we were mentioned in his talking points.

others. School: check; up north (of Starkville): check. I would not want my coach to focus so much on the rival, but if he needs to inspire the fan base, i guess it works. Calling OM U of Mississippi or just Mississippi is also perfectly acceptable.

The fact that we make a point to is annoying. OP is right. +$%%!!%*!#*@@%#*@%# sounds like something a CUSA coach would say. Mississippi was funny because we were calling them by their real name but for whatever reason it got under their skin that we weren't calling them by their cutesy nickname. Making up our own name for them is just stupid and shows that we are too concerned with them.

On purpose, Nutt or UM fans won't mention MSU to make it look like we are not worth mentioning. Many Rebels have actually made a conscious decision to do it and encourage others Rebs to do so.

Remember, this is an alumni rally, not some presentation in front of the rest of the SEC. Other schools' coaches mention their rivals in their alum meetings, so Mullen is not the one doing anything unusual. Nutt and other Rebels NOT mentioning Mississippi State is more unusual.

On the other hand, if Nutt truly considers us inferior and not worth worrying about, then he will get a rude awakening on the recruiting trail and eventually on the field. It's really already started--without all of UM's oversignings, MSU would have kicked Rebel butt this year in recruiting, and any August re-ranking will prove that. Next season, the Dawgs will have more 4-star (or better) players on our team than the Rebels.

Oh, I see, so Nutt fails to mention MSU on purpose as part of a bigger plot to make it look like he doesn't care about MSU. It's a big conspiracy, and I'm actually the one behind it, but don't tell anyone.

As far as recruiting rankings go, the attrition from our class is coming from the lower half, in terms of star ranking. The only blue chip players we signed that aren't enrolled currently are Bobby Massie, Barksdale, and Hornsby, depending on which site you use. You enjoy your recruiting rankings though. We know how important those are. The guys we're losing are Willie Ferrell, Stephen Houston, Artice Kellam, Demarcus Knight, Montez Phillips, and Eric Smiley. We have 4 grayshirts planned (may add one more), and we may cut Jamar Hornsby. Do your all-important enrolled ranking off that. Also, be sure to take off any of yours that don't make it.

I fully expect you to beat us this fall and have a better season if your recruiting has been that much better.

We were only decent three of those seasons, you **** for brains. How many times did LSU beat us? That was pretty close to your record aGAINst Alabama during that timeframe, too.

ETA: You guys ain't Arkansas. They are the only game in the state. They have Sam Walton money. Your biggest donor is in the pokey.

You had better recruiting classes than Arkansas the majority of the time, yet you were terrible while Arkansas was decent to very good.

MedDog said next year you will have more 4* or better players than we will. So what? LSU and Florida had a ****-ton more 4 and 5* players last year. They still lost to Ole Miss, at home. The point is that recruiting rankings don't mean ****, and the games are played on the damn field.

"Mississippi" is the correct term, it's the proper name for the rival school, and even the Rebel fans agree they don't want anyone other than fellow Rebel fans using the terms slaves used for the Missus of the Plantation.

I was actually wondering if anyone picked up on Coach Mullen's explanation. I think it is great, because it goes along with his strategy of recruiting the best players in Mississippi first. He is basically trying to get them buy into the fact that if they want to represent Mississippi, go to Mississippi State. I like it; if we recruit this state, we will win.
