I know, I know. Mullen isn't gone yet. But since there is some smoke, lets make some fire. Tell me who you want. I am trying to exclude pipe dreams like Petersen or Patterson, etc. I am leaving off Franklin, because I think if he leaves Vandy it will be for a bigger job than State. Lets just assume that everyone on this list would accept an offer.<div>
</div><div>I am in the Hud camp, but there are some very interesting names out there to consider as well. I really like Diaz and McGee, as well as DYkes. However, I think we would be assured of losing Diaz again at the next big opening, whereas Hud would probably stick. Briles/Sumlin/Leach/Dykes all bring explosive pass-oriented offenses, which is something to consider with Russell and Prescott on the roster. </div><div>
</div><div>I am sure I left someone off that we would consider, but I would like to get an idea of how many here would be disappointed if we stick with the alleged script and hire Hud quickly. </div>

knowing he can coach a Division 1A/FBS team and improve them immediately. Not to mention he won championships in HS and in Division II.<div>
</div><div>We don't know that with Diaz, or any of these other assistants. We know a lot more about Hud now than we knew about Mullen when we hired him. Now, Hud vs a current (or recent) Division 1A/FBS head coach is another story. I still favor Hud, but wouldn't mind at least seeing who is available as a real candidate (Leach, etc.).</div>

that you don't have with someone like Diaz. If Diaz came back as HC he would leave again upon the first decent offer somewhere else.

Hes hasn't gotten any mention to speak of on this board. I said all season last year and especially when the Miami job opened that I hope Diaz would be named the head coach. I also am a huge fan of HUD, but I have manny atop my list.

His resume is pretty impressive. Of course, you could just hire Leach....<div>

a thing as a fit for a coarch, but couldn't explain exactly what it is. Hud would definitely appear to fit.

Diaz makes 750K currently at Texas. Given the current SEC environment we will pay even a new coach starting out 2 mil/yr minimum.

we won't go wrong.....I'd be ecstatic with any of those names...... Look how far we have come in a few short years....We didn't have lists like that ...that were in our reach at anytime I can ever remember........

can't blame him for that.... I know younger coaches will use us as a springboard to better jobs, and Manny def has aspirations... but that youthful enthusiasm and drive to succeed that the younger coaches bring has benifited us so far

Diaz - same position at one of the top 5 programs in the nation plus the $$$
Hud - D1 head coaching job

I would take either one in a heartbeat, in fact Hud-Diaz would be my 1-2 HC choices to replace Mullen should he leave

I came away very impressed with him after watching the ESPN Year of the QB special they did on Arkansas a few weeks back. He's worked under an offensive mastermind in Petrino, and ran a high-powered spread offense as OC at Northwestern in 2006 & 2007.

Also, he played at Oklahoma......just as Chris Wilson did. I believe Wilson was just a few years ahead of him, but maybe that tie could be enough to keep Wilson on-board as DC. They are both from the same region as McGee is from Tulsa and Wilson is from Dallas, so they have that in common as well. Teamed up together, I believe they would no doubt improve our recruiting (and our offense) by leaps and bounds.

Again, I am shocked he has not come up with the Ole Miss rumors. If we didn't have the history with Hud and his recruiting ties in the state, McGee might be at the top of my list. So I guess he is #2, or at least 2A for me, because I like Dykes a lot too.

If we hired Diaz we would be looking for another coach next year if he had any success at all
