It’s refreshing to see Indiana and Cincinnati in the top 10 in college football national rankings along with the usual suspects of Alabama, et al. For Indiana it’s the most amazing season since Coach Johnny Pont came to Bloomington from Miami of Ohio in Oxford after a few seasons with Yale to go from a 1-8-1 season that gave him a 3-16-1 record at the helm of the Hoosiers to win 9 games in 1967 – 8 of team by 5 or fewer points! Talk about coming through under pressure and in the clutch! Sort of reminds me of Iowa State’s resurrection in the Big 12 this season. As a fellow Monongah High graduate I am proud of the job Nick Saban has done at Alabama, but it’s good to see fresh blood from time to time. Those who knew Saban at Monongah High still call him Brother, the nickname his sister gave him after he was born. And, oh brother, what a career he has had! Brother and Bear Bryant are going to have a fantastic conservation some day in Heaven. Even St. Peter will pause with his Golden Gate duties to listen in.
