Pitino should call Pope tell him he’s being a pu$$y and hang up
Pope reminds me of the SNL Walter Mondale interview skit atm.

"Walt, you know your campaign is tanking right now?"
"I know"
"And that you have a very low chance to win?"
"I know"
"And that people are really not liking you?"
"I know."
"Then what are you doing"
"I don't know."

….Tom Leach? That’s unacceptable.

Starting to think Pope is another ”religious“ phony. Tons of those people.

Tom does nothing but lob soft balls up, and Pope is going to be a dick?

Screw him.

When someone seems to be too nice, and too good to be true at first, they almost always are.
Christofascist are a dime a dozen these days, sad and preventable! Moo!🐄🐂🐮

I always podcast the postgames on the treadmill the next morning. Makes me forget how much I hate cardio. Did it get addressed on today’s postgame show?

I think Matt is still out on vacation. Not sure if he did the postgame or not. His dad has been going through some health stuff so he's been very quiet on SM and been away from the postgame shows a bit here and there..

Q “What did you tell the locker room after the game?” A - “A lot of things” Q “What needs to be better in the future?” A - “That’s a long list” Q - What are specific things to take away from this game?” A - “Not a lot from this game. We need to play harder”

That's it. Verbatim.

I....have no words.

That's Cal level bs.
Holy crap

Pope after a big win :

"In a lot of ways, it's just a beautiful thing to interact with these young human beings and their full emotive force. Their passion has an enlightening quality that amplifies all we do for each other when attempting to edify this program. I, for one, think our young men were conscious first, while still being present, in this game, and that's important. It was good to get a win."

Pretty much the exact opposite. Gritty as all heck honestly. He did a lot of the dirty work on a team that didn’t have many guys that did that sort of thing.

Only reason I asked is I heard him on the pregame.

9-5 going into 2nd game of SEC player.

Note where Cal was at in his second year!
I'm not a player, lol. Maybe you meant something that I'm not reading correctly? I was talking about when signing up here he should have known what he was getting into.

Pope is running a head of what Payne did at Louisville but it’s not going to be good enough at Kentucky. When we lose more often than not it’s by big margins except for North Carolina*. I’m afraid it’s going to get worse, you have got to know when you’re not getting the job done. Last years team is better than this years has been.

Basically it’s I have no idea what to do, no answers on how to win, and I’m in over my head.

Just extremely terse, and short with his answers. Basically put Tom in a very uncomfortable spot.
Tom is a pro. He probably gets it more than we do. I am just so thankful i look at "college sports" as what it is now, an uneven field of here today gone tomorrow amature players who go to highest bidder and no allegiance. So why should I have any?

He beats his dog and pulls the wings off of butterflies as well. The inevitable 90 Mark Pope sucks in every way imaginable threads after every loss are so tiresome.Wouldn't it be nice to actually discuss what went wrong and what went right and what we might do to fix this on a few threads rather than A we are doomed, the seasons over or B MARK POPE SUCKSlet me count the ways after every loss.

Pope is to UK exactly what Matt Doherty was to UNC. Both won national titles as players and were given the coaching job without the resume to support it.

He was 76-56 at Utah Valley. He hasn’t shown much imo.

Exactly. Even at a lower level he didn’t win anything. No conference championships. NIT or CBI finals and no tourney wins. And that was after 9 years as a head coach.

It’s okay to take a chance on a guy based off potential if they’re young like Golden or Scheyer. But Pope was 51. It was a reach and a panic hire by an AD that just isn’t a basketball guy.

For a guy that is supposed to be so smart he seems pretty stupid. They say because he was in med school but he failed at that and couldn’t get through it.

He failed medical school? I hadn't heard that before, I assumed he got drafted into the NBA and had to drop out of medical school.

He dropped out to get into coaching so yeah failed wasn’t the right word but to me it’s strange to go the whole med school thing just the throw that all away especially at that time not knowing where basketball coaching could take you. Regardless, communication is a big quality in being a coach and he seems deficient in it.

Does anyone have a link to the interview? Looks like KSR did in their blurb about the interview (here), but it’s no longer there.

And may I add announcers claiming his team doesn’t play hard on national tv. That has to sting as a coach.
It’s true tho. That’s the biggest thing I just can’t get past. Took my family to the Gonzaga game to show them what BBN really is. Game started and there was literally no effort the whole game. None.

I’m not exaggerating. I somehow picked the worst loss of my lifetime to take my family to. Fans didn’t have one moment to cheer for. No exaggeration. Five minutes in and we hadn’t scored a point.

all this stuff on every thread boils down to POPE AINT CUT OUT FOR THIS JOB.
Mitch threw him in the fire and he’s burning.
