Will be the reason this team never reaches its ceiling. I don’t know how much more Pope needs to see. Williams does more harm than good.

He’s a turnover waiting to happen. He’s not particularly strong nor athletic. He’s a terrible foul shooter. He bricks layups. He is shaky at the top of the key and his handles are awful. If he continues to be the starter and play 20+ minutes a game this team goes absolutely nowhere.

It is becoming a trend, won’t be surprised if we aren’t seeing Carr become the five by mid season

Garrison isn’t the answer either.

Small ball is. It has to be:

Butler
Robinson
Brea
Oweh
Carr

For the bulk of games in which we play real competition.
Agreed, but it’s still early. Williams has been a stalwart defensively for us so far. I like the small ball lineup myself tho

You summed it up perfectly.

Listen y’all. I like Carr at the five too but let’s maybe chill with the sweeping conclusions on such a small data sample. Let’s see what happens with the second half before we get cemented on such a stance. At least that’s how I see things

Amari is just visibly limited. A bigger sample size won’t change the weaknesses I’ve listed. I mean a good nickname for the dude would be Shaky. That describes his game. And if he actually got called for all of his carries, he’d have 2 to 3 more turnovers per game.

He’s plenty strong. But he needs to stop trying to drive it by himself. He needs to set hard screens and not put too much mustard on the passes. And learn to block out.

Thought defense was his calling.....
Loust defense and even worse rebounding

And Williams strikes again right before the under eight timeout. He’s inexplicably being counted on to bring the ball up the court and then do dribble handoffs. The fact that he’s being made to do things that he’s physically incapable of doing is on Pope.

This turnover could very well spell the end for us.

Amari is one of the reasons the game was even close. Don't get the hating on him tonight. He was far from perfect but Carr was way worse.

Four turnovers. Bricks anything outside of 4 feet. Being relied on to take the ball up the floor at times! What’s that about?

Did he get some tough baskets towards the end? Yes. Was he a key reason why we were down so much in the first half? Yes.

Garrison was -20 in efficiency tonight. Clemson outscored us by 20 when he played. Williams was +16. Kriisa was -21

Williams 9/11/3.
Not great but solid.
You don't bench Williams for Carr at the five.
Maybe you give Carr Garrison's backup minutes in a tight game.
We don't have a legit backup 4 as Ansley is primarily a catch and shoot player.

The problem is Carr is too soft to rebound.

Being relied on to bring the bail up tells you all you need to know about UKs guards ability to handle pressure outside of Butler.

Not going to judge Pope off this one team. He had very little time to put it together, and obviously we didn't get the inside players that we need. Robinson might get there, but not this season, and Williams is basically just good on defense. Hopefully next season we have a solid frontcourt, but I think our ceiling this season is S16, with E8 possible. Don't see a F4.

He’s statistically the top rated big man defender in the country.

He just needs to be reeled in offensively to not try to back down from the freethrow line or higher….only legit post ups….and not try to drive from the top of the key unless it’s 1-2 straight line power dribbles and going up.
