If he took you up on your wager regardless of the amount and pope finishes .500 next year and isn’t fired mid season or at all. Whose more right you or him? His point was fired or not he has no faith in him to get the job done, nor do I. And that’s a complete 180 for me as I thought pope would kill it here when hired. The only thing he’s killed thus far though is the programs prestige. I have no desire to be BYU or IU.
Cal had already put a hurt on our programs prestige and most coaches and sport casters felt poked at an outstanding job his first year with you like it or not. Yes last year was not to our standards at all, but he is making the necessary moves to correct it in both coaching and players. I've always said this about a person's ability to change. I can make a change that I need to make but if you're not willing to see it then in your mind, there is no change.

Lol at me trolling. If not for MM coming we wouldnt be ranked preseason. Fact
But he is coming and he's part of a complete package team. You don't get to just separate them because he's actually on the team dumbass. It is on the team because he was recruited by Pope whether it was the money or not Pope recruited him and he became a wildcat..

It really is such a joy to see another thread reiterating a point made a MILLION times in last 2 months. You guys are so obvious.
If a point is being made 2 million times in a month then usually its a valid point. Where there's smoke there's fire
Pope sucks. Bottom line. We are mid level now.

OK Saying we are borderline top 25 right now. It's so troll that you don't even believe that ****. You simply want the coach gone no matter what changes he makes or just to you don't want them here so just admit that and stop saying incredibly stupid ****.
Lol. What rank do you think we are? 15 tops. Mid way thru season we will be unranked.

We have different ideas of hysterical. Why do you care so much what someone else’s opinion of the coach is?

Many of the fans on this site aren’t even sure where they sit on Pope long-term, so it’s anyone’s guess how it turns out. I prefer to believe it works out with Pope, who wants to be here and loves the school. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

Just let everyone else respectfully disagree

No doubt the damage started under Cal, I was pleased with popes first year but you are supposed to build on that and not go backwards. Getting behind big in the first half many times in year 1 carried over to year 2 and the lack of recruiting has gone on two years in a row now. Yes pope is off to a great start with Hampton but will it end with him or be built on. Pope has to be successful this year, there is no sugar coating it. Another 12-14 loss season and 10-8 conference finish isn’t going to cut it. So far he’s made a single change in coaching by adding Williams. Will anything change in his coaching? It certainly didn’t last year and he kind of dug his heels in on his poor substitution patterns and talking about preserving players stamina. It comes down to wins and losses and success in March. Everything else is just noise but so far pope has failed in the assignment. I’ve seen nothing from him to suggest he turns it around. Love to proven wrong.

No matter who the coach is, some years go backwards. The idea that good coaches have teams that get better every year without fail is simply wrong.

Pope will need to be better to keep his job and there is no waving away year 2 as anything other than a bad year.

That said, Joe Hall went 20-8 in year one. He went 13-13 in year two, which was not an improvement year to year.

After having extremely good seasons from 1931-1935, Rupp’s teams lost 4-6 games every season from 1936-1943 despite playing like 20 games a year. Definitely wasn’t year over year improvement.

Sutton’s first team in ‘86 went 32-4. His next season? 18-11.

Pitino improved every year from 1990-1993, but 1994 after losing Mashburn went 27-7 with a R32 loss. That’s not year to year improvement from 1993 to 1994.

Smith won a natty and went 35-4 in year one, then went 28-9 E8 in year two and then 23-10 R32 in year three. That’s not year over year improvement.

Gillispie went from SEC Coach of the Year in 2008 to missing the NCAA tournament and getting fired in year two. That is not year over year improvement.

Calipari went from Elite Eight to Final Four to National Champion in his first three years to missing the tournament entirely in year four. That isn’t year over year improvement.

The point is NO COACH IN THE HISTORY OF KENTUCKY BASKETBALL HAS EVER IMPROVED YEAR OVET YEAR EVERY YEAR. That’s not how things work and that’s not how this has ever worked.

Pope will have to improve — that much is clearly true. But we have too small a sample of data to know if he will or won’t.
