Wasn't there supposed to be "transformational" news about a week ago that would "change the perception" of UK bball? Please tell me that wasn't just the Mo Williams hire? It was a decent hire given the circumstances but definitely doesn't change anyone's view of the program.

I'm pretty sure that was just Jamal Crawford joining the staff speculation.

For me: It seems like he's trying to find his "lane" and its neither high nor low. Right in the middle. Which would work at most other schools, but not UK.

Why? First year Pope had guys that worked with his system – S16. Second year Pope went out and got talent that didn't fit – R32.

If Pope is finding a balance of fit and talent, that's a good thing. You can have talented guys that don't work in your system. You can have guys with great fit who are limited. Talent and fit is important... Could also mean he's cutting down rotations so there aren't too many mouths to feed and there's more money and minutes to go around.

Maybe that's what it means. Maybe not. Regardless, I think a few folks are still infected with Cal syndrome. Like the world will end if we don't have 10 first round draft picks that play fun ball but get slapped into the hardwood by a Staples executive. An all or nothing mentality is a cancer. We don't have to be #1 in everything everywhere all the time to win big. We made it to the final four in 2011, the championship game in 2014, and won it all in 1998 when nobody thought we had a prayer.

The beauty of Kentucky Basketball is that there's no one way to win. We've had success across decades with different coaches. You can't tell me Cal and Pitino share an ounce of coaching philosophy.

Pope has another year. He could do something terrible with it or do something great with it, but to say that a system won't work at UK is just odd to me. We need to let the results next year speak for themselves, IMO.

He could have said a whole lot less, and simply stated "we've been flying below cloud cover, above the clouds is where we need to be".

Exactly. Do you want a Garrison, with all the athleticism, but no basketball IQ? Noah, with the IQ but none of the athleticism? Or someone somewhere in the middle?

hopefully he is exploring an option that includes

Flory Bidunga

Talk about potential irony! Self cuts Bidunga to make $$$ room for Stokes, and Pope picks up Bidunga as a consolation prize 🤣

But in all seriousness, Pope has next to no chance to get Bidunga either, because one of the other coaches of the other top programs will scoop him up and put him in a better situation to win!

Pope has ZERO recruiting juice compared to the others needing players from the portal! Folks, you wanted a 3rd season, you are getting a 3rd season, warts and all!😆

You guys see jokes, I see progress. The old Mark Pope would have said "my beautiful pilots have flown me into a beautiful space, they are ELLLLITE".
Now that's progress, he refrained from the girl dad schtick.

Safe travels and good luck!

I am pretty sure MP flies private jets while employed at UK , as part of the recruiting allowance.

I am trying to understand what the message is here….

is this supposed to be a riddle , an encouragement towards BBN? If so, why not just be direct and keep it simple.

If this flight is for recruiting purposes, I hope MP keeps his riddles to minimum when he talks to recruits. Otherwise , the turbulence might return in year 3…
