Then their is who they have and will play. Lewis, Chicago St., UIC, St. Francis, Ill. St.. Bradley, Ind. St., Valpo, North Texas, Missouri St. and Evansville. One Big Ten opponent, Wisky. = a 14 point loss and a loss to Richmond as well. Yes they beat Drake yesterday but they played without their best player. While I still support Collins, but if a change is made I would think they would go after more successful and higher profile coach. After all he did get fired by Ill.St., right?
I’m not saying Moser is or isn’t the answer here (or if he’s even interested), but most coaches have to work their way up from mid-majors. Here in the B1G we have McCaffery who came from Siena, Holtmann who came from Gardner-Webb and Butler, Underwood who was at SFA before a quick stop at OK St, Turgeon who was at Wichita St, etc.
We’re not a good enough job to be in the market for guys who’ve already done well at another power-conference program (unless maybe we’re their pre-retirement last stop) so we’re left with assistants at major programs (like the guy we have now) or guys who have succeeded as a head coach in lower-tier leagues.
And the MVC isn’t a terrible league, KenPom has them 11th of 32 conferences so they’re one of the top mid-major leagues and have been for years.
Loyola got to the Final 4 thanks to 2 buzzer beaters and another 1-point win, but they got there. So that counts for something. And they play great defense, which is an identity I’d like to see our team have in the future.
