I would like Manny Diaz from MTSU or Bumpas from TCU as my top 2. However, for some runner-up choices: Based off NCAA stat site (see links at bottom of post) how about:

1. North Carolina DC Everett Withers: http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/withers_everett00.html

-pros: I would assume Butch Davis knows Defense and this Withers guy looks to have a good mix of college and Pro experience. Tar Heels were in the top 15 for all Defensive categories in 2009.

-cons: Kind of jumped around alot in college resume. Great ACC Defense might translate into mediocre SEC defense.

2. Duke DC Mike MacIntyre: http://www.goduke.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=4200&ATCLID=1357983

-pros: coached with Parcells at Dallas Cowboys for 4 seasons, plus has SEC experience. Not too old at age 44.

-cons: well, its at Duke, and Duke sux and this guy coached at ole miss under Cut during most of his college time, so according to most OM folks who troll this board, Cut sucked....cue rebel bruiser in 3,2,1...

3. Tommy Tuberville - yeah, I know, PIPEDREAM candidate (plus I don't consider him 3rd place anyway) Yet would he come back to the SEC to coach Defense under Mullen for a few years to get ready for another HC position for the future? doubt it, but just throwing that out there as a wish mostly......flame away!

NOTE: I used following NCAA FBS site for:
1. Total Defense: https://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2009&rpt=IA_teamtotdef&site=org&div=IA&dest=O
2. Rushing Defense: https://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2009&rpt=IA_teamrushdef&site=org&div=IA&dest=O
3. Passing Defense: https://web1.ncaa.org/mfb/natlRank.jsp?year=2009&rpt=IA_teampassdef&site=org&div=IA&dest=O

and before the next time we play Tennessee, can we hire Tony Dungy as a motivational speaker? (sarcasm)
