http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4807719 -- Jim Leavitt of South Florida fired today.

This guy is a great coach. If he would want to get right back on his feet I would love to have him here.

Seriously doubt we got a shot at him, I just think its an interesting very far-fetched possibility.

I don't understand the vaginazation of America, even the player and the father said he did nothing wrong. I can't tell you how many times I have had my facemask grabbed or hit by a coach. Guess I could have a lot of coaches fired today.

If he had as much of a role in defense as Mullen has had in our offense, he should definitely be considered. It looks like he was a highly effective, if obscure, defensive coordinator prior to his job at USF.

I just don't think Leavitt fits the profile of what Mullen is looking for. I suspect Mullen would be looking for a much younger, fiery type coach, but who also has experience and is a good recruiter.

Now, I have seen Leavitt and he is surely fiery but he is more in the insane or anger mgmt category. He might end up punching one of our dubmass players or maybe punching Mullen.

I think somebody like Diaz would be a much better fit but what do I know.

So, you're saying if you had the choice between Jim Levitt, who has been a successful DC and head coach in BCS conferences, and Manny Diaz, you would chose Diaz? To each his own, but I take Levitt every single time.

If we were seriously interested in Manny Diaz I truly believe that we would have already had him in for an interview or even offered him the job. I dont understand why we are waiting so long. With Levitt on the market I really believe we'd be foolish not to go after him. There arent many DCs that are looking to come to Starkville, so I say we should take who we can get and start using them to help with recruiting.

I'd take Leavitt in a heartbeat but don't know if he'd take a demotion to DC unless he just wanted a paycheck for next year. Even if he took it he'd probably be one and done and leave for the 1st HC job he could get so I don't know if Mullen would want to have to deal with having to hire another DC next year.

Probably best to simply find and up and comer that wants to prove himself and hope he does well and we can hold onto him for 2-3 years

My guess is that a hungry program that really doesn't give a rat's *** about an abuse case will snatch him up as HC. "Coach, we really want you, but just promise not to beat your players, ok?" "You got it." "Great, here's a million bucks."
