First off, if we don’t sweep OM, even losing 1 of 3 to Mizzou would be absolutely catastrophic. We need to finish 5-1 or 6-0.
Secondly, they are still 0-24, but Mizzou might ever so quietly be figuring out some things with their pitching. Heading into last weekend, they were 0-21. Of those 21 games, 19 were planned 9 inning games, and 2 were 7-inning DH games. Of the 19 planned 9-inning games, they gave up 7+ runs in ALL of them, and gave up 10+ runs in 13 of them…..that’s absolutely putrid. Some of those 19 games ended up being only 7 innings due to them getting run ruled, so it could have been even worse.
But then, last weekend happened. Mizzou got swept again, of course. But they were just a few bounces away from actually winning the series against an elite UGA team. Sunday game, Mizzou and UGA were tied at 2 heading to the 9th. T9 - UGA scored 2 runs. Mizzou was blanked in B9 and lost 4-2. Saturday ballgame, UGA had a 4 spot in one inning, just 1 run for the rest of the game. UGA ended up winning 5-2 in spite of only getting 4 hits in the game. So in summary, after going 0-20 in allowing 6 or fewer runs in 9 inning SEC games, they did it twice last weekend on Sat / Sun.
I really hope they take a game or two against A&M this weekend, just to take the pressure off of us to keep from being the only team that loses to the worst SEC team in history.
