I agree. It’s really poor form for a poster to steal a photo from a fellow poster and use it as their personal image.

You just have to wonder about their mental health.
This is not a pic of @laKavosiey-st lion .

It is a pic that he posted of a friend of his. I made it my avatar as a joke.... asked if he want me to take it down and was told no, he loved it.

Thanks for your concern about my health.

I’m well aware of individual and his friendship with lKa.

What’s weird is why you would do such a thing. 🤷🏼

A bit more than a bit creepy, eh Sleepy?

Like I said... it was a joke. I made the post with the avatar and then said I would remove it if he wanted.

He said he didn't care. Is it your picture? If Big Pete or @laKavosiey-st lion wanted me to take it down I will.

I don’t recall ever attempting a free weight bench press.

So I guess my number would be some multiple of i

Would that be weights filled with a little helium and floating ever so slightly upward on their own?

That I could handle :)
You might surprise yourself. Never too late to join a gym.

Wasn’t the whole concept, which is present in many newer machines, that you try to make the full ROM more effective rather than have hot and cold parts of a rep?
Sounds about right. All I can say is that when I was 33 I was crazy buff and it was due to Nautilius.

If you ever listened to Dan Riley speak you would have bought a whole gym of machines
I still don’t understand how throwing a weight over my head and jumping underneath of it makes you a player. All I see is injuries

I’ve never been injured. There’s a correct way to do things and if you’re mindful you’ll be okay.

Free weights build strength. I was buff. These are two different things. Football players need strength. My ego was / is satisfied with buff.

I used to be good looking. Anyone who tells you that this doesn’t matter is either ignorant or lying.

More to the matter at hand, free weights are superior to Nautilius in building strength, no comparison.

They have good weight training coaches. When was the last time we’ve had a PSU player injured in the weight room? You miss class, coach gets in your face. You fool around in the weight room, coach gets in your face.

I’ll say this about Felli, I always urged him to talk more about lifting than he wanted to but just about every time he spoke about lifting he’d say, don’t get injured, it’s not worth it. There are some monster lifters at my gym but they’re never in trouble.

I’m a believer in mostly free weight movements supplemented by machines . I think currently, free weights are the largest component of the weight training . Basing it on all the this is our college FB teams weight room.

Dan always said most of weight lifting was based on myth and not science. If Alabama is doing it this way we better too

Here’s Bama’s weight room . I don’t see a lot of machines compared to free weight stations

Proving my point
How? Every gym I know of has a mixture of free weights and machines. The fact that Alabama has this mixture is totally expected. There is a place for machines but for creating strength free weights are the way to go, 100%.

Very cool. You can really improve with this kind of instantaneous feedback. Very nice. I used to have a weight belt where I’d do dips with a 45 pounder attached and I thought I was the **** until I thought to film myself. I put my belt away that day.

So why have any machines? Makes you look like curves

You can, for example, do heavy squats and then immediately go to the seated leg press and crank out some more sets to failure without worrying about breaking down. That’s standard at my gym. Or do a free weight bench press and then go to the press machine. The range of motion in free weights is much superior to what machines give you (as you know) and that’s a valuable part of getting strong.

Plus balance and core strength improves with free weights as you know

One big benefit of machines is the ease in which you can drop set. and you can do slow negatives without worrying you’ll collapse.

Six week update. Shoulders are doing okay after a 3 week heavy cycle. Not sure where I’ll be after a 10 day vacay (including NCAAs in Philly), but if I can comfortably get over 40 dips this spring (would love to hit 50 once more in my life, and I’m 60) I’ll see if I gym will permit a video. Finishing with 6x230 on triceps press (dip weight machine) but no idea what endurance cycle will show.

With good luck I can be the 2025 version of thecoolestfish.
One more session left in another heavy cycle. Weathered the layoff in March okay. One session left in this heavy cycle. Finishing with 6x245 on triceps press, which puts me at about the max weight I’ll be able to do because the machine has no belt. Getting in some mixed grip chest press to test the bench press ROM, but not hitting anything heavy yet (225 x 6 max, 205 x 15 as workout-ender today). Debating whether I’m up for an extended endurance cycle to shoot for that 40-rep dip set. Might get out of triceps press and lay into bench/chest press for heavy work, then see if I can get dips for reps at same time. Always nice to change up a bit.
