He said the final play wanted Lowe to get downhill and he just didn’t get downhill.

He said we will grieve this loss and then get back after it. This was only the third game with Lowe and JQ both, so we will get better.
I think some of the current problem is that JQ can’t seem to scratch his arse in there. Don’t know what happened to the St John’s JQ. We’re better with Moreno right now and Garrison actually played well tonight minus the bad pass at the end.

You know.. (bleh).. we did play pretty solid in the 2nd half. I saw a lot of things I hadn't seen earlier. A lot more chemistry, better passing, a little semblence to what we saw last season. So while we did totally collapse in the end and THAT **** has to get fixed.. I did see improvement in some areas.

The problem is we dont have much more time/losses. He can talk all he wants about having Lowe and JQ for more games, but we are running out of time.
Yea we looked dominant for about two minutes. Then pope gets to doing science experiments with emotions and shiyat

The last play was apparently having Lowe drive middle and hopefully kick to Williams in the corner. Am I mistaken or were we down by three? If I'm the other coach I don't guard anything but three pointers. Why would a coach have a player leave the best shooter to help on a two point drive that doesn't hurt them. You have to run some type of screen action to help free Williams. A drive and kick with a stationary guy in the corner isn't working in that situation unless you are playing a middle school team. Even then they probably are not going to let that happen either..

I know I’m like .5% of the board when I say this, but I loved Clyde. Still follow his career. Worked some camps with him forever ago. He’s a super nice dude, but has a nasty streak. I’ve always said it’s what made him so good. At least I knew Clyde had the balls to get stuff done.
You’re not wrong. Easy to dunk on BCG. Purely from an X’s and O’s standpoint, he could coach. His demons kept us from seeing the best of him here. It’s kind of like how we say “Eddie Sutton” with a hiss, but he was an outstanding basketball coach. I begged for Gillispie in 2007, and many in BBN did as well —- he was one of the hottest coaches in America.

I totally agree. That’s how effing bad Pope is. I finally get some guys on my side about Clyde. 😂
Billy G was a legend. He brought players to Kentucky that made positive impacts on our program. Was his time here the best no. I was young but when I think about Billy G I think Patrick Patterson. I think Jodie Meeks 54 on Tennessee’s head. I think Jorts being put in a stall and eventually leading us to a magical run in the tournament even tho that was with a different coach. That bathroom stall probably molded him into what he was. Billy G is a legend.

Why would you want to "get downhill" when you need a 3 and you have no timeouts? Makes no sense to me. Missouri should just give him the layup and continue to guard the 3 point line.

Technically, Patterson committed to Tubby and Tubby was also the primary recruiter that got Meeks interested in Kentucky. Gillespie offered an 8th grade Dakota Euton who was not athletic at all and ended up a very average player for Asbury.College. Neither he nor Pope are great recruiters of top talent.

BCG is a better fit for an under the radar program. Mitch once again thought a guy that overachieved a year with lesser talent is a right fit at UK. UK needs a good X and O that can also recruit. Mitch isn't very good with coaching hires. He's missed big time in a lot of major sports..

I’ll give Billy G credit for keeping them then even tho the college landscape was way different back then. Pope can barely keep players that played for him two years. All of his players are miserable at the moment.

First game at Kentucky so there was no game film on how he was going to be used. Happens quite a bit when someone doesn't have a ton of film to game plan on. Remember Marcus Lee against Michigan in the EE. Or Keion Brooks first game back from injury against Florida in 2021. Even D Allen that same year against Miss St. They all look like superstars and then other teams figured out how to play them. I think JQ will be fine. He still has to get his game legs under him (practice, especially against our team, just isn't comparable) and I think he will continue to improve. He still has some of that post injury nervousness but that will fade.

Let’s not kid ourselves, nothing he could say would be interpreted in a very good light for fans.

I‘m not concerned about words, I want to see actions that improve the results.

Dumb it down tells me we have a bunch of overpriced/overpayed idiots that practice like they play. They don’t care about winning, they care about themselves.

Patterson did not commit to Tubby.

He was never going to play for Tubby.

Then that POS tried to recruit him to Minn. PP wasn’t going there either.

BCG had a mission to get PP and did. It had absolutely nothing to do with Tubby.

The 2nd half kind reminded me of the second half vs UL in that we played well for the first 15 mins but in a close game, couldn't execute down the stretch.

Both times too........it be one thing if shots just weren't falling......those things happen......but so many possessions ending in turnovers and no shots. It's evidence they don't have a real go to option when they absolutely need a bucket.

Yeah .......then again at that point the game was probably gone TBH. I have to imagine the % of making a 3 when everyone in the fuilding knows you need a 3 is small. Coupled that with our poor 3 point shooting, the fact that they still might have had a chance to win it in regulation or that OT is probably a 50/50 toss up on who wins, it's like they would have won anyways. Tho we should have at least gotten a better shot than Lowe jacking that three guarded.

Up 66-58 with 4:37 left.........that's where the game was lost.

We were down by 3, a layup doesn't even tie the game.

True but you have to imagine this was about Lowe driving to kick out to find an open man.

And I know the logic is well why would the defense sag off and help on Lowe knowing a 2 doesn't beat them, but..........well things happen.

I can bet it would have been a much better look at 3 than what we got.

But again too much focused on that singular play when we were up 8 with 4:37 left.

There was nothing we did after that last TV timeout that would make me feel that 3 was going down regardless lol. This team when they don't get blown out and they are actually in tight games down the stretch also does not produce.
